Hamline Church Garden Clean-Up, Saturday, April 18 at 9:00 a.m. to noon. Spring is finally here and we need your help cleaning the award-winning gardens at Hamline Church. Please bring gardening tools such as gloves, pruners, loppers, rakes, and
wheelbarrows. Some extra tools will be on hand, but not enough for everyone. We will tackle the front gardens and the rain garden and remove last year's foilage, trim bushes, and rake leaves. If you are looking for some extra-hard work, there is landscape fabric to be removed in several locations that I promise will give you a good workout. Beverages and snacks will be provided.
Mulch Day on May 2In addition to the April 18 clean-up day, we will meet again on May 2 to mulch the gardens. Please let me know if you are able to work that day. Hamline University has graciously agreed to coordinate the mulch delivery. In order to know how much mulch to order, we need to know how many workers will be on site to spread it.
Adopt-A-GardenAfter the April 18 and May 2 work days, garden maintenance will be done by volunteers who have adopted a garden. This is a great way to share your gardening talent or learn about gardening. Plus, you have the flexibility to work in the garden when it fits into your schedule. If you are interested in adopting a garden, please let me know. There is the rain garden, vegetable garden that the Hamline University student group SPROUTS
http://groups.google.com/group/hamlinesprout is leading, and various perennial gardens. Eight individuals/families have adopted a garden so far with some adopting the same garden and dividing the work. This is a great way to manage the garden work and busy summer schedules. The only responsibilities are weeding and removing any litter from the garden - easy, huh? The vegetable garden will require some watering too, but there is a spigot close by and hoses on hand.
Community Gardening CalendarLast, here is a link to the Hamline Midway Community Gardening Calendar:
http://www.google.com/calendar/render?tab=mc&gsessionid=tTtnKUGz_T7jql8HebGAHA
In addition to Hamline Church garden dates, it includes gardening events around our neighborhood that you may be interested in participating in.
Hope to see you Saturday, April 18. Please forward this information to others who may be interested. Thanks!
