Want to improve your alley, prevent crime, and build community on your block? Organize a Green Alley Makeover!

Green Alley Makeover Day
Saturday, September 22, 9:00-1:00pm
In your alley

It's easy: download an organizing packet and work together with your neighbors to plan a fun event suited to your alley's needs. Last year, neighbors organized a plant swap; planted natives, edibles, and ornamental plants along the alley; removed weed trees and brush; cleaned up trash; and enjoyed a potluck lunch. See photos of the 2011 event as well as before and after photos of several properties. Here's what two participants had to say:
  • "Many alley spaces that looked derelict now look clean and tended-to. I met neighbors I'd never spoken with before, and had great conversations with residents I almost never see. [Plus] I got to use a weed wrench!"
  • "'Extreme Alley Makeover' should be the name of this program - beautiful transformations of neglected space."
Need help? Assistance is Available!
The Community Building Committee and Hamline-Midway Environmental Group are offering extra volunteers, equipment, and materials for a lucky alley. Apply by Wednesday, August 22 at 5pm. Application packet is available here
