Hamline Midway Neighborhood News for December 2012
HMC Events & Opportunities
Want to start a tool library? A tool library allows patrons to borrow tools, equipment and "how-to" instructional materials. The Midway Local Food Resource Hub has seed money to start a tool library in or around Hamline Midway neighborhood. We need you to join the planning team! Contact Faith at fa...@hamlinemidway.org or 651-494-7683.
Seven new block club organizers and a Little Free Library are born! On November 29, thirty community members gathered at HMC’s Block Club Organizer Recognition Dinner and Workshop to celebrate their community building work, learn about creative placemaking and Little Free Libraries, train in new organizers, and share resources. The group collaboratively decorated a newly-commissioned Little Free Library, which was given as a door prize to Stephanie Digby. Thanks to our event volunteers: Erin Pavlica, Kathy Carlson, Colin Kline, Lars Christiansen, Carrie Pomeroy, Caryl Mousseaux, and Bill Tessman!
Environment
Help keep our neighborhood walkable! In St. Paul, property owners have 24 hours to clear snow and ice from sidewalks. Hamline Midway Coalition has doorhangers you can distribute to neighbors as reminders. Contact us to pick them up!
Tips on snow and ice removal – A dizzying array of products are available to melt snow and ice from sidewalks, but these products can impair water quality. Check out this guide from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to learn how to reduce your use of salt products while keeping your sidewalks clear.
Tis the season for ice dams! Ice dams can be caused by heat loss from your home. Learn how to prevent ice dams and prevent damage at the University of Minnesota Extension Service's Ice Dam site.
