Iam slightly aware of a recurrence of various printer problems on Win11 but am not clear on where that leaves one with an older printer. I have seen pointers to a Microsoft library of old drivers ( =hp+laserjet+1022n) and I downloaded what seemed to be suitable drivers, but the printer installation process did not want to use any that I offered.

Print a network page from the printer to find the IP address.

Select Add printer manually. Add printer using an IP address or hostname.

Put the IP address in the address field.

Follow your nose to complete the installation.

I have two HP4250s, a HP4240, and two HP400 M401 printers on my P2P office network. All are attached using static IP addresses as suggested by Paul and PK. All are accessed by Win10 and Win11 workstations without an issue. The 42XX series are real workhorses.

My old HP printer quit connecting with the new Sonoma 14 update on my I-Mac. After finding the HP community site it appears double jeopardy: Sonoma 14 doesn't work for HP printers and HP doesn't have drivers above 13. (Actually, I could only find 11.)

Verify if your HP printer is AirPrint compatible. If so, add the printer using the Bonjour connection instead of using the drivers. Printer device drivers have been a problem with every update as they are either not updated by the manufacturer to support the OS or the manufacturer quits supporting the printers all together. This is true of all manufacturers and occurs on both Mac and PC's. The solution is to only use a printer that is AirPrint compatible, which most are nowadays. This eliminates the need for any printer drivers from the manufacturer and will solve the problem of the device not working after an update. I have the HP OfficeJet 5740 and it continues to work with Sonoma and uses AirPrint with no drivers from HP.

Now, a word of warning, my recall of the steps might be a little troubled and I might have executed some other steps in between or repeated one or two a few times, like rebooting and emptying the bin, but the end result is that

But my problem with a network connected LaserJet Pro 500 is different: I can start a print job. The job shows up in the print cue but the cue goes immediately in a "halted" or "waiting" state (using German macOS - don't know how this is translated in English) from which it never recovers.

HP Envy printer working fine on AirPrint all devices -phones, iPads, and Macs. Then the machine running Sonoma 14.4.1 print jobs paused printer, unable to change this. Other devices still all working. In the end resorted to a USB connection to get the functionality back.

I've got a really old HP P2015 printer but it stiil works well and I'm determined to get more miles out of it. I experienced the same issue when I bought a new MacBook Air M3 with Sonoma for my wife. There is a simple fix, at least for this simple printer: don't use the HP device-specific driver. When you add the printer, in the "Use:" dropdown, select Generic PostScript Printer. You'll get a warning that you "may not be able to use all of the features" of your printer but you should be able to print. Not upgrading software is a common ploy among tech companies to "encourage" customers to buy new hardware. Apple blaming HP for this issue is, at best, ironic.

I'm in the same boat. Great printer, ethernet connected, and shared with 5 users in the home. So far, it does work with Sonoma as a generic Postscript printer. I'd replace it, but I just replaced all 4 toner cartridges, so we have to recover that investment first. Honestly, HP is in the ink and toner business. Why wouldn't they create drivers to encourage me to continue buying toner at $125 a pop?

HP quit supporting that printer 11/1/2022. You can replace it with any AirPrint printer and you will find that HP has many options too. Manufactures have now turned to AirPrint so they do not have to maintain the drivers for the printers themselves.

I have an Officejet 6700 printer and using Easy start application from HP site, everything is installed, also the good Easy Scan software (with OCR). The problem is that with OS Sonoma (never had beta) when printing with Acrobat Reader DC some options are not available stating I'm using Mac OS Sonoma Beta. But I only installed and have the final version !

I used these following steps. Installed hplip 3.23.3.run. When I tried printer set up it asked additional drivers. I opened hp.com web page. I clicked on hplip-3.23.3-plugin.run, it opened the page. I saved it using ctrl+ s in a directory. It saved as hplip-3.23.3-plugin.run. I ran hp-setup and set the path to this directory. Printer started working for me. Please try this.

I had a similar issue but with a different printer, HP Laserjet P1006 to be exact. What i found works for me is in printer properties, in the Advanced tab set it to Print after last page is spooled. Ever since, I haven't had to restart the computer, or cycle the printer to get network printing to work.
