Has anyone got any experience with Screech Owl nest-cavity requirements?
I’m about to make a nest box for Screech Owls using I”X 6” cedar boards that I have available. Allowing for overlap and actual vs. nominal dimensions my boards would create an internal floor area of about 25 sq. in. which strikes me as a pretty decent space (and would be a good sized cavity in a tree).
When I look at any on-line plans they all specify 1”x 10” lumber which obviously makes for a much more voluminous box. Does floor size matter?
Attracting Screech Owls is probably a bit of a long-shot anyway but I'm sure my smaller box would suit other species.
Alternatively, if anyone has nest box(es) they no longer want or which need restoration, I’d take a couple.
