This May it is the 50th anniversary of Birdathon ... I looked back at my notes and believe this is my 47th Birdathon - yikes!

I will once again be doing my Birdathon for the 21st year in a "green" format only walking or cycling for the day. I plan to do my bird day at Point Pelee in May and will likely see 100 - 125 species.

I have just returned from a wonderful experience volunteering at the Tip Research Station (pictured) which is at the end of Long Point 32 km out into Lake Erie. This station is the genesis of LPBO and therefore Birds Canada and is the longest running bird banding station in North America. It is also impressive the amount of science that is supported well beyond banding such as long running nesting surveys, insect monitoring, reptile and amphibian studies, complex sampling as part of extraordinarily interesting and valuable chemical studies in conjunction with scientists doing research across Canada. A truly special place and it was wonderful to witness the talent and efforts of the Birds Canada staff and volunteers.

It reinforced for me the long running passion I have to support Birds Canada!
