July Update

Thank you for signing up to learn more about Stop Fitzhugh Concert Venue. The proposed 5,000-seat outdoor concert and entertainment venue has the potential to harm Barton Creek, bring traffic, noise and light pollution to nearby communities.

TCEQ Update:

This week, the executive director of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) filed a formal response recommending that the commission grant 12 hearing requests concerning Blizexas LLC’s proposed wastewater permit. The Office of Public Interest Counsel went a step further, recommending 21 be granted. These requests came from a wide range of concerned stakeholders, including the Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance, Hays Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, Fitzhugh Neighbors, Shield Ranch, Save Our Springs and others who raised serious concerns about the draft permit’s potential impacts on water quality, groundwater, wildlife, livestock and public health.

In August, TCEQ commissioners will decide whether to grant a contested case hearing and, if so, determine what specific issues to refer to the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH). The SOAH process ensures environmental permit applications receive the thorough review they deserve to fully address the impacts of proposed development on Texas' natural resources and communities.

One year ago, our partners at Shield Ranch became a certified Urban Night Sky Place by Dark Sky International, advancing our mission to protect Texas’ disappearing night skies.

As the 20th International Dark Sky Place in the state, Shield Ranch joined Dripping Springs, Bee Cave and Reimers Ranch Park in a growing regional effort to fight light pollution in the Hill Country.
