October Update

Thank you for signing up to learn more about Stop Fitzhugh Concert Venue. The proposed 5,000-seat outdoor concert and entertainment venue has the potential to harm Barton Creek, bring traffic, noise and light pollution to nearby communities.

Concert Venue Update

On Thursday, October 23, the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH) will hold a preliminary hearing regarding Blizexas’s proposed TCEQ permit.

At this hearing, an administrative law judge (ALJ) will name parties involved, set a hearing schedule, and consider other legal issues as appropriate.

Following the preliminary hearing, the ALJ will have 180 days to hold the final hearing and submit a proposal for a decision to the TCEQ commissioners for their review and consideration.

We’ll continue sharing updates as the process works its way through SOAH.

Lights Out, Texas

Each fall, millions of birds migrate at night, guided by the moon, stars and Earth’s magnetic field. By turning off excess lighting, communities can help provide them with a safe passage between their nesting and wintering grounds. 🐦

The City of Dripping Springs is encouraging residents and businesses to turn off non-essential exterior lights through November 30—with peak migration ending October 29. Here’s how you can help:

Turn off all non-essential lights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night during migration season.
Close curtains and blinds at night to reduce the amount of light being emitted from windows.
Turn off exterior floodlights.
Opt for shielded lighting that directs lights downward.
Try using task lighting at your workstation instead of overhead lights if you’re working late.

This effort is also a powerful reminder of what’s at stake. The proposed 5,000-seat concert venue has the potential to introduce more light pollution in the Fitzhugh corridor, one of the Hill Country's remaining dark sky zones. Let’s protect our wildlife and dark skies together.

As families head out for fall festivals and trick-or-treating, we’re reminding everyone that Fitzhugh Road is already a dark, narrow and high-traffic route —even without a 5,000-seat venue nearby. 🎃

Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind this Halloween:

Slow down and stay alert in residential neighborhoods.
Watch for pedestrians crossing the street.
Put away distractions like your phone so you can focus on driving.
And of course, never drink and drive!
