I suspect a number of folks may sit out the May 4 election because they do not perceive it to be of much consequence. However, the race for two seats on the LTISD Board turns out to be very important. The pressing reason (for me anyway) is the issue of book bans.

Here is an excerpt from an ad distributed by a local organization called Lake Travis Voices for Progress PAC (V4P), which was organized to push back against a socially conservative group called Lake Travis Families PAC:

2024 is a big year for school board elections in Lake Travis ISD. That's why V4P is supporting Lauren White and Phillip Davis in their re-elections for LTISD School Board.  Lauren and Phillip are the only two educators on the board, and they are the only two candidates who have proven they truly support public education.  They have voted against banning books in the district and they do not align with any groups (like Lake Travis Families PAC) who have political affiliations with pro-voucher advocates.

LTISD is on the verge of having all 7 seats of the LTISD school board controlled by Lake Travis Families PAC and its founders, Krystle (political consultant) and Christian Alvarado (Governor Abbott appointee). Last year when the PAC hand-selected two unopposed board members, they celebrated there wasn't an election. They celebrated our community not having a choice.  That isn't democracy and that isn't good for our students and public education.

Early voting has started. I hope that you will vote ….  and that you will get behind the re-election of Phillip Davis and Lauren White.

You should also be aware that the Texas legislature has mandated that Travis Central Appraisal District (TCAD) board members are to be elected. For the first time, voters will be able to select 3 board members of this important agency at the May 4 election.
