In the six short years I’ve lived here I’ve seen increased traffic on Hamilton Pool Road. The proposed bond to raise money from tax payers to build the Reimers Peacock Rd between Hamilton Pool Road and 71 will do nothing to improve this.

The increased population in Dripping Springs is causing traffic going to and from and between Dripping Springs and Bee Cave to Hwy 71. People are coming from Dripping Springs on RR12, down Hamilton Pool Rd to get to Hwy71 to take their routes to work and schools. Then back again at the end of the day.

It seems a road connecting 290 to 71 is the solution. People need a way to get from Dripping Springs to Hwy 71 without going all the way over on RR12 , and down Hamilton Pool Rd. The only other option I know of is to drive all the way down 290 to the triangle at 290 and 71.

Has there ever been talk of connecting 290 to 71 further up closer to Bee Cave? Again, I haven’t lived here that long so maybe this is not an option?

Linda ---

There have been a few proposals for another road between 290 and 71. All
have been very controversial. Most of the land is in the environmentally
sensitive Barton Creek watershed. There would likely be one or more bridges
over Barton Creek. Also most of the tracts between the two highways are
large ranches and/or large tracts that are in conservation.

It would be difficult to fund such an ambitious, expensive project.

There's no easy solution, politically or financially.

Thomas Springs Rd and Circle Drive would allow people to cut through to 290, and would not cross Barton Creek.

Just read that the City of Bee Cave has budgeted money to extend Vail Divide south to HPR.  This is on the eastern end of HPR, about 1-1/2 miles from the intersection of HPR and 71.  Here's the link: https://communityimpact.com/austin/city-county/2017/07/12/10-projects-bee-cave-radar-fy-2017-18/
