Internews’ Earth
Journalism Network will be organizing a Fellowship for journalists
interested in agriculture – 1 each from China, India, Brazil, the US and
Northwestern Mexico -- to attend the IUCN World Conservation Congress being held in
Jeju, Korea in early September. This program is aimed at working with
journalists who cover agriculture and want to learn about and boost their
coverage of agro-ecology and food security issues.
Journalists working for media
from the 5 countries listed above in any media format (print, radio, TV or
online) are welcome to apply for this Fellowship, which will provide
journalists with support for travel, lodging and daily expenses in Jeju, help
with registration to attend the conference, and participation in a one-day
field trip. The donor supporting this program, the Christensen Fund, is quite
specific about the countries we are seeking journalists from, so we apologize
we can’t offer to send journalists from other countries.
Interested journalists can
apply by sending the following to Jeff Rutherford at tjeffru...@gmail.com and making sure the words IUCN
and Agriculture are in the subject line:
·
A copy of your CV and bio, describing your background in journalism and current
media affiliation;
·
A letter of support signed by your editor/producer/supervisor acknowledging
that you can participate in the Fellowship program, that you can attend the
entire program arriving on Sept 5th
and departing on Sept 12th and that your stories will be published or aired
by the media organization;
·
Two samples of your journalism work;
·
A 500-word explanation of why you’d like to participate in the Fellowship
program.
The initial deadline for
applying is July 15th. Sorry for the short notice, but this
opportunity arose rather suddenly. Since time is short, the earlier you can
apply, the better your chances of going.
If you are a journalist
interested in agriculture and interested in applying, please do so. If you
know of any journalists from China, India, Brazil, the US or NW Mexico who
might be interested and suitable, please spread the word! Freelance
journalists are also welcome to apply so long as they can provide the signed
letter of support from an editor/producer/supervisor. Criteria for selection
include the size and reach of a media organization’s audience, the quality of
an applicant’s journalism work, and the demonstrated interest of an applicant
in reporting on agriculture and food security issues.
Whether or not you are
interested in applying, we hope you will distribute this message to other
journalists who may be interested and suitable. If you have any questions,
please send them to tjeffru...@gmail.com. Thanks for your
consideration.
