Internetworks perfectly on host (Ubuntu 13.04, 32 bit, fully updated) but cannot connect to internet on guest Windows 7 (under Virtualbox 4.2).Have tried NAT and Bridge Network - none worked. I had internet connection in the guest OS a couple of months ago, but I haven't tried the virtualbox since and now it's gone for some reason. I would be grateful if someone could help me re-connect the windows OS back online (without the need to format my computer or to uninstall and re-install the guest OS).Thanks!
At that point you should be able to start a web browser in your VM and get a connection. This video provided the information I listed above, even though they are using a Windows 7 host with a Windows Server guest.
Another solution: If you are on windows Host, Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections right click any of the Virtualbox adapter and select Diagnose, let it do its thing and if it finds some anomaly with the adapter it will give you a prompt to reset the adapter by Apply the recommended solution/changes , you opt in for that, after its done, you most probably should have the network back to normal in your virtual machine.
For wireless to work, in my machines anyway, the WiFi MAC address in Settings must match the hardware, and wlan0 must be selected (when host Internet comes through wireless).
I had the same problem with a VirtualBox VM (5.9.14) that was working previously and stopped working after a shutdown/reboot. In my case the VB option "cable connected" got disabled for some obscure reason.Enabling that again made everything work again (no need for promiscuous mode in this case since I'm not doing anything requiring this - no WireShark or anything of that kind)Bottom line: do not assume that the Network configuration for your VM is correct. If you have problems, review that part of the configuration.
I ended up finding that my issue was in regards to my Network Center. Ensure that the wifi you are connected to is sharing internet, with the VirtualBox wifi adapter. This configuration is under the adapter settings in Network and Sharing Center.
I found out a solution that fixed mine. All the built-in Windows web apps and also Office 365 were under the impression that there was no internet connection. Office had actually shut down, saying it had not been activated.
I had Windows Event Log service stopped. I did this on purpose. My last build on this PC, the Event Log had become corrupted and it caused a whole host of problems. I thought disabling it would help ward off any similar repeat.
The site that Windows uses to test internet connectivity is
www.msftncsi.com . I was also getting the yellow exclamation mark and did the following. I pinged
www.msftncsi.com and did a nslookup for
www.msftncsi.com and the yellow exclamation mark.
If I connect to my the network of my university using Cisco AnyConnect, I can no longer connect to the internet on WSL, while everything works fine using e.g. firefox in the windows system. I get: ping:
google.de: Temporary failure in name resolution
That worked once, I had access to the internet. But as soon as I disconnected the VPN connection and connected again, I had the same problem all over again. I tried to just execute the commands again and rebooted, but now thats not working anymore.
There is an issue with DNS Forwarding in WSL2 when using VPN (see github Issue). Plus there is a issue with the Cisco AnyConnect. So here is a workaround for these problems. Should work for Ubuntu and Debian.
This solution is automatic and was created by EdwardCooke (see -dns-configuration-with-wsl-and-anyconnect-client/). This is just the first part of his solution updating resolv.conf when starting WSL.
In my case I get DNS issues when try to connect to internal stuff via browser (on Windows 10, f.e.: intranet), caused by the high metric value set in step 4 (basically kind of disabling VPN Route). So here is the workaround for the workaround:
For Windows 11 there was an update to WSL2 in September 2023 with (hopefully) a fix for this issue. Create a file %UserProfile%\.wslconfig with the content below, and then restart wsl. Run wsl.exe --shutdown. I also had to restart my computer but I am not sure if that is always necessary.
In my case, i set VPN network interface metric to 6000 and both vpn and internet within wsl is now working:Get-NetAdapter Where-Object $_.InterfaceDescription -Match "Cisco AnyConnect" Set-NetIPInterface -InterfaceMetric 6000
I had the same problem (no internet when VPN connected) running WSL version 2. To resolve I uninstalled Ubuntu, then from powershell set the default version to WSL 1 when installing a new distro wsl --set-default-version then re-installed Ubuntu. That resolved the issue. To check the WSL versions being used for each distro, from powershell enter wsl -l -v
I am using the 3 month trial version of RHINO 7 for school. Sadly when I open the program my internet connection dies. I know the issue is limited to my laptop (pc) because I still have a connection on my phone.
I have tried allowing RHINO through my firewall, even turning the firewall off to see if that helped, but still, when I open RHINO 7 -or- 6 my connection stops. Is there some setting in the program that might effect my wireless connection?
I changed the value to 1 in the registry, sadly that did not fix the issue. I still lose my connection. Might changing my license to a cloud type instead of a single computer license work? Not sure how to do that.
Windows is all up to date. I know my connection is lost because none of my programs that require a connection work like MS teams, also I cannot load any web pages in my browser. Eventually my computer will tell me the wifi I am connected to has no web connection, which is not true because my phone is connected. Then after a bit, I disconnect from the wifi all together. Again, connection issues are remedied by simply closing RHINO.
I assume that when you say your phone still works you mean over the wifi using the same router as your computer, not the cellular connection? I would hazard a guess that you are losing the connection between the computer and the router. Check the network connection status at your computer.
a) Try running the Safe Mode version of Rhino and let us know if you still lose your connection. Safe Mode limits functionality (for instance not loading plugins) so is a good way to help McNeel identify where the cause might lie.
d) Is there someone from school who has Rhino on a fully working laptop who could come round and connect to your Wi-Fi whilst you are disconnected and see if running their Rhino encounters the same problem?
I am having the same issue!
When I run the program, the WiFi connection is disconnected and no matter how much I click on the connect again (WiFi connect automatically is enabled as well) it will not connect.
As soon as I exit the program, the Internet will be connected!
I have internet connection, and I can browse various sites aside from those ones banned in my region, but for some reason, the taskbar icon indicates that I have no internet access (icon of earth with a no sign).
I don't know how or why this happened, it's suddenly like this out of nowhere. The "Network and Internet" tab shows that I need to do "something" and there is a "launch internet explorer and connect" or something like that. I clicked on it, and it leads to "
msftconnecttest.com/redirect" site, which would then redirect to MSN. But it would still shows that I have no internet connection.
I really need a solution to this as I can't even log in Xbox or anything that is Microsoft-related. I have tried regedit and network restoration, both not working. DISM returned no system error whatsoever. Reboot also did nothing. I don't know if it's a configuration issue or anything but as of now this is getting really annoying.
@A1-A1 Thanks for the reply but I already solved it by changing the reg file, uninstalling the network adapter and then reinstalling it. Not sure how it solved it or how it happened in the first place, and I totally didn't do that on purpose, but I'm glad I get it done.
It looks like the reason behind it is the site (it used to be
www.msftncsi.com) referenced in the reg file changed (
www.msftconnecttest.com) but all the ISPs in my region didn't update their protocols for some reason and caused such issue.
I have the exact same issue. It won't show up on the list of available networks of my laptop. It has windows 10 too. It shows and works fine in other devices (laptops, cellphones, tablets). I don't know what to do about it
The Nokia Tower offers a wide selection of Wifi Channels which is fantastic. These channels are used world wide meaning not all channels are used in all countries. Its a global device. The Channels offered to us in the USA includes some channels with restrictions and not commonly used in typical routers. In this respect the Nokia router is superior, as you can truly set a channel in a crowded wifi area that no one else uses.
More or less, it is something with your computer and not the Nokia Tower. Try refreshing your network on the computer because no matter what, its should be seeing the 2.5 network at the least, no matter what settings on the router.
