Hi all,
I'm trying to program an attiny13 soic using an Uno as a isp.  I'm following the instructable below, but I keep getting the error "avrdude: Error: Could not find USBtiny device (0x1781/0xc9f)".
I replace Arduino 1.5 with 1.0.6.  I'm using a soic clip, and have repositioned it 1000 times in case it's not connecting.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong?  I've rechecked the connections a bunch of times.

A couple pics, in case my stupidity is not apparent from my description. :)

Greetings Shawn,

Most examples trying to use an arduino as a programmer also include a 10uF electrolytic capacitor between the arduino's reset pin an ground. This prevents the DTR signal from triggering the arduino's reset pin and starting the bootloader.

You'll want the negative pin of the cap on ground, and the other pin on reset.

Hope that helps.

Peter.

I hope so too. I'll give that a try. Thanks :)

Well, I'm a complete jackass.  Tried to simplify by using an Attiny85 DIP.  Wanted to make sure my Uno was working as a programmer.  Still had the problem.  I still had "usbtiny" selected instead of "Arduino as ISP" in Tools->Programmer.  I used USB tiny programmer  from sparkfun previously to program attiny85s, but it doesn't have attiny13 support.  Complete noob mistake.  Frustrating.

Still a good tip on the cap, though.  :)

Now to try the soic again...

Thanks,
Shawn
