Hi all,

This is Naisi Zhen who is trying to build upon Dal Go club’s weekly Monday gathering and add a bit fun(and $$$) to make it a more lively in-person Go League.

This is an update from my initial post.
I have talked to a few people from the dal go club and who showed interest. I gathered some more thoughts from the chats and I have drafted an initial league rule book (for the lack of better terms). Please let me know what you think.

I have 10-16people in mind who could be regular players and games meaningful. And also wishing to see some new faces.
I am still trying to figure out the venue. Student Union building was suggested but I would need a volunteer to make the reservations.
A few other TBDs in the rule book attached.

Most importantly the players! If you are interested please register on Leago and discord(or email) to let me know.
Leago registration: https://leago.gg/event/xotxboe
More to come in the following weeks to finalize it. Stay tuned.

My goodness --- Thanks for leading this effort!  Happy to participate in whatever you arrange.  Sorry to lack enough of any opinion to chime in.

I guess my only suggestion would be to leave a board/stones/clock at one or two possible meeting spots.  I'd be glad to do that.  We used to meet at Uncommon Grounds when they were open in the evenings. Nowadays they close at 7pm, but I can leave a board and stones there.

David

Hi Naisi,

I've gotten in touch with the club president (as far as the Dalhousie Student Union) is concerned. She sent some information onto me last week. I've followed up asking if there would be any issues donating the money to the Dalhousie society, and then using the money for cash prizes.

I can't seem to get your email from the mailing list. That's why I am sending the reply here. Feel free to reach out to me at: scott....@dal.ca

Best wishes,
Scott

P.S. I may not be at Go club tonight, given the weather.

Sorry for the delayed announcement, but the room booking at the DAL Student Union building is a bit more complicated than we hoped. It requires the DAL Go Club to be re-ratified and our league season officially listed and approved by the DSU, among other administrative tasks.

We will still play at Chase/Math Building 207 for the whole season. If doors are locked, try to call David 902-225-9734, Scott 902-670-4564 or text Naisi 902-412-2865 (William and I will be in a bit late, between 730-8 pm)

I currently have the following players interested (in Rank order):
Theodore 3D
William 2D
David 1D
Richard 1k
Naisi 7k
Aaron 10k
A-Yang 10k (New Comer)
Colin 15k
Scott 15K
Nhi 15k

Anyone interested in playing the league games can just come and play; anyone who plays 8 games is eligible for the prize pool sharing by club points.

Simplified League Rules (Final):
1. 12 weeks of self-arranged handicapped games every Monday (8-10 pm) from April 13 till mid July (excluding holidays when Dal Campus closes). Handicapped suggestion (Rank differences/2)+1, or mutually agreed. Suggest playing with the closest-ranked player available if possible.
2. Club points: win 3 points; lose 1 point.

Tiebreakers

a.total wins

b.head-to-head (only if both played ≥1 counted game

c.addition tiebreaker game

3. Prize pool: $1000 + (potential donation), all to be shared by eligible players and by their club points. Donation is not required, but help me to get more fund-matching to support another season.

Thank you for your interest and participation in the league! See you soon!

Naisi
