Hello all,
My name is D. Keith Casey, Jr. and I'm a non-local interloper based
near Washington, DC. I met Trevor last week at php|tek. In my "day
job" - not that it ever ends during the daytime - is CTO for Blue
Parabola, LLC which is a joint effort between myself and Marco Tabini
of php|architect magazine. We do quite a bit of large scale PHP
consulting for various "enterprise" customers. In my "free time", I'm
a core contributor to web2project, serve as a tech reviewer for for
php|architect magazine, organize the DCPHP Beverage Subgroup, and have
a bizarre fascination with monkeys.
Anyway, I begged Trevor for an invite to the list for one main
reason. I think we can learn from one another. Sure, DCPHP is bigger
(~200), but we'll each hit various problems in different ways with
different perspectives and goals. If nothing else, we can trade notes
and let each other know what does/doesn't work where. Sort of the
core of the Open Source ethic. Besides, when I finally make it up to
Halifax and PEI, I want to have a few people to meet for drinks. ;)
One suggestion I'll make right off the bat. Brand your mailing list's
subject line. We use "[dcphp-dev]". It's descriptive and allows
people to easily find us or filter/tag/search incoming messages.
Doing a quick search on "phpNS" shows less than 10k hits, so you could
own the term in a month.
And for the record, I'm open to USian jokes as long as you're open to
Canadian jokes. php|a is based in Toronto, so I get picked on
regularly. ;)
Have a good one,
keith
