Cows injected with rBGH get painful, inflamed mammary glands, and their
milk increases cancer risk.

Most people enjoy the taste of ice cream, however not all ice creams are
equal. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) say it's okay for you to
consume milk from cows which are jabbed with a genetically modified (GM)
hormone. To them, milk from cows given growth hormones is no different
from milk from cows that aren't given hormones.
However, Dr. Sam Epstein, a researcher who has thoroughly examined the
use of recumbent bovine growth hormone (rBGH) in cattle is convinced
otherwise. His research leads him to believe that:
- rBGH makes cows sick and causes mastitis; inflammation of the mammary
gland, the equivalent of the female breast and nipple;
- rBGH-derived milk is contaminated by pus;
- rBGH-derived milk is chemically and nutritionally different than
natural milk;
- Milk from cows injected with rBGH is contaminated with Bovine Growth
Hormone, traces of which are absorbed through the human intestines into
the blood of people who consume this milk or products made from it;
- rBGH milk contains high levels of a potent cancer tumor promoter
called insulin-like growth factor number one (IGF-1), which is readily
absorbed through the gut.
Excess levels of IGF-1 in the human body have been linked in
numerous scientific studies as a cause of breast, colon, and prostate
cancer. Humans also make IGF1 every day and human and bovine IGF1 are
nearly identical in their chemical make-up, making the bovine version
easily absorbed.
It should be noted that all milk will contain some IGF1, as does human
breast milk, which is basically what cows' milk is - milk meant for the
consumption of calves only. However milk from cows jabbed with rBGH
contains more IGF1 than milk from cows which aren't injected with rBGH.
Hence if you have cancer, you want to avoid milk-containing products.
The brands to avoid which contain GM growth hormones
Dreyer's, Edy's, Nestle, Haagen-Dazs, Klondike, Good Humor, and
Breyer's. If you have a container of one of these brands in your freezer,
throw it out immediately.
Alternative brands to buy next time you shop
Ice cream contains a lot of sugar and so it pays to get low sugar and
high taste varieties...and eat them occasionally as a treat. Personally,
I do not advocate eating ice cream because its sugar creates an
environment for bacteria to erode your teeth enamel, and reduces your
immunity, however we all have our preferences!
Instead of eating ice cream on its own, always eat it with some protein
as part of your overall meal so you get fat, protein, and carbohydrates
together. It is also best to take ice cream out of the freezer just
before you start cooking and let it stand and defrost a little before
eating it because cold foods cause the stomach to spasm, which disrupts
digestion.
Try the following brands, maybe buying a different one each time so you
can find your favorite:
Coconut Bliss, Julie's Organic, Green & Black's.
Coconut Bliss is one to try first because in general the ingredients are
less processed, are organic, and they contain no dairy, soy, gluten or
artificial sweeteners or other synthetic, unhealthy chemicals.
The irony of it all
The company which now owns the rights to bovine growth hormones is
Eli Lilly, the drug manufacturer which also sells cancer treatment drugs.
