Hello,

I've been playing around with mobile development for quite sometime and I just wondered if there is an interest in having Halalan as a mobile web app?
Or is it completely tangential to Halalan's development plans as of now?

There was an interest in the earlier years of Halalan but it died
down. Also, it was not a mobile web app but a SMS application (e.g.,
Text BOTO <candidate number> to <Halalan number>). We called it
Molalan (Mobile Halalan). On the other hand, JM has an idea of a
Tablet Halalan that can be used in barangay elections. You could
merge your ideas and let's see what will happen.

As of now, the focus is on version 2. But Tablet Halalan is interesting.

I guess Tablet Halalan will likely be on an Android device?

JM mentioned involving ASTI for the creation of tablets but I don't
know the details.

If I am right, the DOST has released their own tablet PCs. I think it is the one used for the Rizal tablet PC mentioned in the news a few days back. As far as I know, a prototype is available at the NDSG lab.

Right now, my forays into mobile development is mainly on wrapping web apps into a native browser container.
I'm currently using Phonegap (www.phonegap.com) as the framework for deploying it onto the different platforms and jQTouch (http://www.jqtouch.com/), and by extension JQuery, to build the UI and program logic.
The whole stack is written in HTML/CSS/Javascript using AJAX to communicate with remote resources, if need be.
To store data locally, I'm using Webkit's native SQLite backend.

I'm still not sure of the security implications on going this route and if it is robust enough to withstand the security requirements of an election setting.
