Jazakallahul Khairan Br Lateef Farook. I will pick up a copy when I will be back in SL next time. I would also like to meet with you and discuss the way forward for our community.

May Allah protect our Ummah and grant patience and wisdom to combat this menace of Islamophobism and may Allah help us to convert this to our advantage. It is our bounden duty to pass the great message of Islam to those unfortunate ones who did not receive. Our past history shows Muslims of SL were neglectful of this duty. Allah is informing this folly thru' the activities of Gnanasara Thero perhaps.

We need to heed this warning. Gnanasara Thero has prepared the platform for us by making his community ready to listen to Islam, whatever his intention may be. He encourages other Monks to read the Quran too. So let us facilitate it. For the first time in history of Sri Lanka, I suppose, Gnanasara Thero from the status of a Buddhist Monk read the Quran on TV. So the truth of Allah's words are clear here ... "They plot and Allah plots but Allah is the best of plotters" "Wallahu Khairul maakireen". So we should recognize the message of Allah and fulfill our duties of conveying the Message of Islam to those who had been constricted of this favour by those who possessed it, namely the Muslims of Sri Lanka. It could be the reason for this saga that's going on.

Today our community is involved mostly in in-fighting. We are the comedians among the Non-Muslim community whether in parliament or outside. Our community members are engaged in illegal trades and actions. Even Gawagathan rises due to the inhuman treatment of cattle before the slaughter by our knife yielding hard hearted butchers while a Muslim butcher has to be the kindest person if he follows the example of our Prophet (pbuh). From the way they gather their prey and load on trucks and during transport and during slaughter it is a hallmark of horror for the animal. There are no ethics followed. No signs of compassion. We keep blaming the Buddhists without even trying to correct such follies.

Best form of Da'wa is not the thousands of words we spill out but the modesty of behaviour and etiquette that we display in front of humanity. Our humbleness, sincerity and taqwa is the key factor. This is most required to be instilled among the butchers if we want to change our status.

Recently we sent an emissary to SL to engage with Buddhist leaders and Monks using the opportunity of Ifthar gatherings. We saw a huge acknowledgement from this community who are starving of truth about Islam and Muslims. A simple issue like Hijab which made a huge row was simply undone by explaining the status of their most respected Bhikkuni whose dress code complies with the code of Islamic dress with citations of dress codes from their scripture, Tripitaka. Buddhists were stunned when they were made to realize that the shaving of head of a Bhikkuni is the equivalent of a Muslimah's hijab.

It was explained that by shaving her hair the sexual urge of man towards the woman is killed. We never hear of a Bhikkuni being raped anywhere. Since a Bhikkuni is not supposed to marry she is instructed to shave her hair off. But since the Muslimah is obligated to marry she need to retain her hair as a point of beauty and sexual attraction needed for procreation but she covers it in front of outsiders to serve the same purpose of  a Bhikkuni. Buddha also mentioned "The form of a woman captivates the mind of a man" Loose garment is the solution for this.

Use of such words of wisdom bears fruit. I sincerely feel this is the way forward for us. I can list many such similarities between our two religions. Muslims who do dialogue with Buddhists need to learn about these. I have written about these extensively in the past.

Muslims of Sri Lanka - Under Siege
This book is about the never ending 'Hate- Muslim' campaign unleashed by a small group of Sinhala racists who fortunately do not enjoy the support of the vast majority of Sinhalese in the country.

The writer is concerned that this campaign, unless brought to a halt, is likely to lead to a total breakdown in communal harmony to the detriment of the country which has just emerged from a devastating ethnic war.

This campaign began around four years ago, coincidentally or otherwise, with the ever increasing Israeli presence in the island. Today the Muslim community has become the victim of not merely highly offensive hate speeches but also subjected to attacks on mosques, religious schools, halal food, women’s dress code, slaughtered pigs thrown into mosque, burning and urinating on Holy Quran, forcing Muslim students to kneel down and worship Sinhalese teachers, writing Allah’s name on pig’s face and the list continues.
These disgusting acts threaten the Muslims who live in fear with an uncertain future.
This book of 46 chapters covers burning issues from the endless sufferings of the LTTE evicted Jaffna Muslims, ferocious Tsunami waves which snuffed out  hundreds of thousands of lives and left behind an unprecedented trail of horror, destruction of Muslim shrine in Anuradhapura to  many more and the attacks on the Muslims of Aluthgama, Dharga Town and Beruwala.
The Aluthgama carnage caused death and destruction besides crippling Muslim economy turning happy families overnight to depend on charity for survival. This shows that no lesson has been learnt and the authority has remained blind to these despicable crimes.
In the aftermath of the defeat of the LTTE in May 2009, all expected the government to attend to minority grievances, remove fears of the majority and bring communities together to move ahead in unity for a better future for all.  Instead minorities appear to have been written off and overall Sinhalization has been underway in full swing.
The question is whether this country battered by three decades long ethnic war due to racist politics could afford to take the very same battered path which has all the ingredients to cause communal conflicts and tear apart the country.

Beneficial Speech from Ibnul-Qayyim Concerning Mixing Between Men and Women

Nov 1, 2010By AbdurRahman Orgin Character, mtws.org, Shaykh Ibn Al Qayyim, Women1 Comment

Ibnul-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy upon him) said in At-Turuq Al-Hakeemah (1/406-408):

And from that, is that it is obligatory upon the ruler to prevent the mixing of men and women in the marketplaces, (public) areas and gatherings of men. Maalik (may Allah have mercy upon him and be pleased with him) said: “I hold that it is for the Imaam to give priority to scrutinizing the goldsmiths (who are) sitting in the gatherings of women. And I hold that he should not leave the young woman to sit with the goldsmiths. As for the woman of high rank and the man who is a lowly servant, (the woman) having no (reason to have) concern for the gathering and he (the servant) does not care who sits with him, then I do not see a prohibitive problem with that.”

The Imaam will be asked about that; and the fitnah in it is great. He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “I have not left behind a fitnah more harmful upon the men than women.” And in another Hadeeth: “Separate the men and women.” And in another Hadeeth, he said to the women: “You should be on the outer borders of the path.”

It is obligatory upon him (the ruler) to prevent the women from going out beautified and wearing make-up.  And he must prevent them from wearing clothing in which they are Kaasyaat ‘Aariyaat (Clothed but Naked at the same time); such as clothing that is loose and flimsy. He should prevent them from speaking to men in the streets and he should (likewise) prevent the men from that. And if the ruler sees that it causes corruption to the woman that she, adorns herself with makeup, beautifies herself or her clothing with dye or the likes, then some of the jurists have permitted with regards to that, and they were correct, that he may confine the woman (to her home) if she frequently goes out of her house; and that is the least of the monetary punishments; especially if she goes out wearing make-up. Rather, silent agreement of the women upon that is considered to be aiding in sin and disobedience; and Allah will question the ruler concerning that. The Chief of the Believers, ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattaab (may Allah be pleased with him), prevented the women from walking in the pathways of men and mixing with them in the streets. So it is upon the ruler to follow his example in that.

Al-Khallaal said in his Al-Jaami’: “Muhammad ibn Yahyaa Al-Kahhaal informed me that he told my father, ‘Abdullah, ‘I see the evil man with the woman (i.e. I see that it is the evil man who mixes freely with women)’ He said: He has spoken correctly with it (this statement).’ And the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) informed me (Thus as is in Ash-Shaamilah) that the woman who perfumes herself and goes out of her house is a fornicatress. And he forbade the woman from attending Salatul-‘Ishaa in the Masjid if she has scented herself with incense.”

The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “When the woman goes out the Shaytaan accompanies her.” There is no doubt that allowing for the women to mix freely with the men is the origin of every trial and evil; and it is from the greatest reasons for the descending of punishment which is general (encompassing everyone) just as it is from the reasons for corruption of the general and specific affairs. Mixing between men and women is the reason for increase of Fawaahish (lewdness) and fornication; and it is from the reasons for general death and contagious diseases. When the prostitutes mixed with the hosts of Moosaa and began to commit acts of Faahishah (prostitution) amongst them, Allah sent the diseases to them so that in one day 70,000 people died. And the story is well known in the books of tafseer.

So from the greatest reasons for general death is the abundance of az-Zinaa (fornication) brought about by allowing women to mix freely with men and walk amongst them beautified wearing make-up. If the rulers knew what that contained from corruption of the Dunyaa and the people under their custody with regards to the religion, then they would be the most stern in the prevention of that.

‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “When az-Zinaa spreads in a village then Allah permits its destruction.”

Ibn Abid-Dunyaa said: Ibraheem ibnul-Ash’ab told us: ‘Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Zayd al-‘Amaa told us, on the authority of his father, from Sa’eed ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbaas who said: Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “A people have never shorted (others) in their measurements nor reduced their weights except that Allah ‘Azz wa Jal has prevented them from expansion. And fornication has not spread amongst a people except that death has spread amongst them (as well). And the act of the people of Loot has not appeared amongst a people except that ignominy spreads amongst them. And a people have not abandoned commanding the good and forbidding the evil except that their actions are not raised up (to Allah) and their supplications are not responded to.”

And may prayers and peace from Allah be upon his Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions.

Assalaamu Alaikum

Brother Niyas has rightly observed:
"Best form of Da'wa is not the thousands of words we spill out but the modesty of behaviour and etiquette that we display in front of humanity. Our humbleness, sincerity and taqwa is the key factor."

Some would go even further to say that the worst enemies of Islam are those who call themselves Muslims but who are very bad Ambassadors of Islam.

A lot can be said about what is wrong with us but let me limit myself to just one item, the Hijab that brother Niyas referred to. We see a lot of Muslim females on the road these days who wear Hijab in all its variations because it is a religious requirement. But how many of them observe the religious requirements regarding how a female should venture outside her house? Shouldn't she be accompanied by a "Mahram" male? But how many of the females we see on the road wearing the Hijab are accompanied by a "Mahram" male? Well, not many according to my observation. For some of them, the "Mahram" male is a child not more than 10 years old when the "Mahram" should be a mature male.

Secondly, are these females out, on errands that are absolutely necessary or is it merely a sort of past time in most cases?

Whose fault is this? Is this not the fault of our men who are either lazy or too busy to accompany their wives/daughters/sisters/mothers when it becomes necessary for the females to go out?

No one can deny that unlike a few decades ago, when Muslim females were seldom seen out, they have become very visible now and I dare say that this visibility can be greatly reduced if only our men will do their duty. Doesn't this high visibility contribute immensely to the anti Hijab campaign?

Wassalaam
