Alhamdu Lillah some sort of agreement has been reached on the Halal  certification issue.
Muslims need not be unduly worried as we have a precedent in the "Truce of Hudaibiyya."
Highly respected present prelates  of Bellanwila and kelani Temples have made their views known in unequivocal terms. Except for the recent  sad incidents affecting the Muslims both Sinhalese  and Muslims have been co-existing very peacefully. The recent incidents have been fuelled by a disgruntled few who may had their own agenda and Muslims/or orchestrated by unseen hands- the reason why they had a free hand.

"Truth has one characteristic. It  always lies hidden but will come out one day." Allah is the Best Planner while others also plan.

After the truce of Hudaibiyya some important sahabas felt frustrated but subsequent event proved otherwise.
It has been very interesting and education to read cross sections of views although some may have been unpalatable. Nevertheless each one is entitled to his opinion. However we are Muslims and we must always stick to decorum even when opposing others views. We should stop attacking individuals in their personal capacity. They are also not idle but acting within norms.
I am digressing  and what I may suggest is that this website continue and if agreeable instead of Halal Group something like Islamic News or Muslim News be substituted. This is my personal opinion subject to correction. However your site has been very useful May Allah shower you with more wisdom and courage
Wassalam

Salams,
First and foremost let me convey that your suggestion to change the name of the forum is very timely.
The issue was very tricky not only for Muslims, but for the average Sinhala Buddhists, those venerable Buddhist high priests and to some genuine politicians. Any person who talks out of turn will be immediately branded as anti Buddhist. You could see it in the faces of those high priests. But there was a huge silent majority anxiously waiting to see the outcome.
It cannot be denied that this issue has poisoned the minds of some, polluted the peaceful atmosphere in the society, but at the same time aroused the curiosity of majority of Buddhists about belief, food culture, dress culture, Sharia and simply what is Halal. The case of Rizana was another mistery to the non Muslims. The quest for knowledge was every where, from the educated echelons to the man on the pavement. I don't know how many of us were able to quench the thirst of these quests.
The sad part is, this issue happened to bring out the sad state of affairs in the Muslim community. Jealousy, hatred, chaos, disunity, discussing short coming of people in public, Rambo style heroes were all exposed. There were also politicians who tried to inflame the BBS by making irresponsible statements. The snow flake sub committees of political parties made mockery of our feelings.
There were also some Trojan horses in the forum, and the moderator has to find a way to keep them out.
These exposures should teach us all a lesson, to mend our ways, and look forward to be better organized. Need for Sinhala websites, call for writers in local languages, education and skills development for youths, proper presentation skills were felt, even though some harsh words were used.
In all these situations, we as Muslims are forgetting a very important thing.  The great Sahabas, Thabieens, Thabathabieens struggled with everything including their lives to strengthen their Iman, and ensure that the religion reached the future generations. Today we are Muslims Al hamdhu Lillah. But if we expect for a life of bed of roses and do not go through our share of struggle to strengthen our Iman, then Allah is partial (naoodhu Billah), because he made the predecessors to suffer but gave us a cushy life. Can this be correct?
Nothing happens without the Will of Allah.

When Allah in His immense Mercy Gives us a smaller trial, can we afford to crack at the first sign of calamity? Can we start the blame game and selfish activities to protect only our so called group and throw the rest of Sri Lanka Ummah to face the Music? Can we betray fellow brothers based on their level of understanding of Islam? Where is our tolerance? This is the biggest mistake we have been making during the last few years, and today the adversaries are throwing our own words on our faces to taunt our brothers. Please let us make a truce among ourselves first.
If a non Muslim minister quotes the Quran and gives a twisted meaning, then we should realize that the message of Islam has not reached the desired level of population. This we should try to correct. Attire and appearance will not correct the perception but proper Islamic behavior will Insha Allah.

Assalamu aleikum, very wholesome articles, hit me right in the heart.  Jezakhallah khair for such a frank and indepth view of the present situation/chaos in our Community.  Bottom line is, we Muslims have lost the fear of Allah !  we now tend to play games with Him, so we are now at the receiving end of this serious situation.  A lot of damage has already been done, we have to redeem ourselves pretty quickly from this quagmire that we have sunk into.  These thoughts that you have expressed and the article below yours is priceless.  May Allah bless you all.  Hopefully, right thinking minds should get together, be united, forget differences etc and work together to try and rectify this situation.  Everything has to be started at Grassroot levels.  The internet has very limited reach, the common man on the ground has to be enlightened as quickly as possible.  We can notice that the man in the villages has been reached by communal organizations like the BBS and they are the people whom we would have to very quickly turn around.  It is their children who are going to hold the strings in the future and we should quickly gear ourselves towards this goal.

Let us see more creative and deep discussions on this forum and leave aside our petty differences and misunderstandings behind.............................

Salams to all,
This is the situation in the great USA as far as food is concerned.
If we try to tell the Americans that they are eating the anus of a pig with a fancy name, will they appreciate us?
Chances are that they will eat it with its contents just to spite us. It is a futile effort to show the right path to the adamant.
Sheikh Ahmed Deedat used to say that you are what you eat.
Let them or any other people eat what they want and let them die in their ignorance.
Muslims have more important work to do for the Aakhirah.
Finally, just imagine the plight of Muslims in US in finding food to retain their Iman and stay alive .

Food fraud in America: What are you really eating?

slateslateRhode Island Rep. Joseph McNamara is currently trying to pass legislation that would make fried squid the official state appetizer. Since Rhode Island is the squid capital of the world – hey, they have to be good at something – chances are the fried rings served there are exactly what they claim to be. Elsewhere, however, they may be serving you deep fried pig anus and calling it calamari.

In January, National Public Radio told a story about a multi-state pork processing company selling pig rectum – referred to, by the industry, as “bung” – as imitation calamari. NPR’s Ira Glass did everything possible to refute his source on the story, but dozens of experts could not shoot down the possibility that people are ordering squid and getting pork bung instead. He went so far as to have his sister, a chef, serve a plate of fried bung next to a plate of fried calamari.

No one could tell the difference.

Yes, I agree with you, It will benifit the Muslims and others as well. But, if you take it or not, there is a school of thought that,''They(BBS) criticized the ROSE, saying it;s cheek was RED.
