“I want all the children in my village to go to school” says 14-year old Kishan, leader of Save the Children appointed Children’s Group. However, a year ago, this young boy was himself a child labourer.

There was a time when Kishan attended school. But he started becoming irregular in the 6th standard. It didn’t help that his parents too were not keen to send him to school. He was regarded as the family’s potential bread winner. His father worked as a sweeper in a bank. On days when his father could not go to work, Kishan worked on his father’s behalf. Thus, because of the ignorance and irresponsibility of his parents, he lost almost one year to labour.

The turning point of his life was when he got in touch with Save the Children appointed Children’s Group. Click here to read more

45 DAY ANTI-CHILD LABOUR CAMPAIGN

As per government figures, around 12.6 million children are involved in labour. According to the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, there are up to 60 million children working in India.

The figure is rising as we speak!

30 April 2013, was Anti-child Labour Day. To mark the occasion, Save the Children has launched a 45 day Anti-child Labour Campaign till 12 June, 2013 which is World Day Against Child Labour. The campaign will run in the national capital Delhi as well as states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh.

In these 45 days, we want to involve the youth, parents, children, community members and policy makers to act against the exploitative child labour practices in India, and ensure that all children are in school.

We need your support to make this campaign a success for the millions of children who deserve a childhood. With a simple missed call on 080-3008-8424, you can show your support against child labour and make it possible for children to be free to pursue their dreams.

We would like to thank you for your sustained and generous contribution that has helped us reach out to many marginalised children across the country. We request you to continue supporting our work by making a donation now
