The overheating issues with my Dell M1530 GPU are getting worse. This is
a known problem with this laptop with a known fix: open it, add a copper
spacer between the heat sink and GPU, apply thermal grease and
(hopefully) the problem is solved. So I need a copper spacer. Where
would I get something like this, ideally locally? It should be something
like 1mm thick.

I dont recall seeing any copper, but have you tried The Yard?

Also, try Lloyd's Electronics, on Harry street.

Here's a crazy idea... Try a roofing supply type of place (i.e. they handle copper roofing supplies that may be the proper thickness.) Or one of the metal processing places listed in the phone book. ( there is one located on McLean south of downtown.)  Both ideas are slightly better than a long shot.

If none of those places have what you are looking for you could try Grainger on S West St.
