Press Statement



The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:



On OBC Quota Judgement



The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) welcomes the judgement of the Supreme Court upholding the law passed for 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes in educational institutions run by the Central government.  The judgement has also excluded the creamy layer from the reserved quota.



The CPI(M) has consistently advocated reservation of 27 per cent for Other Backward Classes and excluding the affluent sections, so that the really deserving get the benefits of the quota.



The Central government should take immediate steps to implement the reservation quota from the forthcoming academic year.
