One of the objectives of NICEE has been to educate the general populace about seismic safety related issues by providing relevant literature and information in local vernacular languages.
NICEE announces the Hindi translation of IITK-BMTPC Earthquake Tips by Prof. CVR Murty and Earthquake-Resistant Confined Masonry Construction by Prof. Svetlana Brzev. For this work, NICEE acknowledges the efforts put in by Vigyan Prasar, NOIDA and DMMC, Dehradun for the translation of Earthquake Tips and Confined Masonry, respectively.
Earthquake Tips contains 24 Tips which are written for general public interested in earthquake resistant building construction with no prior knowledge of engineering. The tips cover topics such as basic introduction to earthquake and terminology such as magnitude and intensity, concepts of earthquake resistant design, and aspects of seismic design and construction of buildings. Despite the complexity of the concepts care has been taken to keep the Tips simple and unambiguous.
Confined Masonry has evolved over the last hundred years through an informal process based on its satisfactory performance in past earthquakes in countries and regions of extremely high seismic risk. It is used both for non-engineered and engineered construction; its field applications range from one- and two-storey single-family dwellings to six-storey apartment buildings. This monograph is written for building professionals interested in learning more about confined masonry construction and for those who would like to promote its application in countries with high earthquake risk.
Interested persons may obtain copies on payment of ` 200/- per copy of each title (overseas order may add ` 700/- per copy to cover air-mail postage and handling), by sending an email with their complete name, affiliation, organization and postal address to ni...@iitk.ac.in. Payment can be made by credit card at web site www.nicee.org/payment.php . The payment can also be made by a draft/cheque in favour of ‘National Information Centre of Earthquake Engineering’ payable at Kanpur. Outstation cheques, not payable at par at Kanpur, will also be accepted and should add ` 95/- as bank charges. The requests should be sent to:
