Seismic Design Of Reinforced Concrete Buildings

Course Objectives:


The aim of the course is to provide the participants an overview on seismic design procedures for multi-storied reinforced concrete buildings. At the end of the course, the participants are expected to:

  • Have an overall understanding of the seismic design concepts, procedures and current practices to enable them to plan and direct the construction activity appropriately.

  • Understand the methodology of seismic design to be able to execute a proper design.

  • Have a better appreciation of various construction details with respect to seismic response.

Dr. Sudhir K. Jain: Professor, Director – IIT Gandhinagar, working in the areas of Earthquake Engineering, Structural Dynamics.


Dr. Durgesh C. Rai: Professor, Civil Engineering, IIT Kanpur, working in the area of Experimental seismic behavior of structures, Energy dissipation devices, Masonry and Steel-RC composite members.


Dr. Greg MacRae: Professor at University of Canterbury, New Zealand and Visiting professor-IIT Gandhinagar , working in the areas of Structural design, Structural modeling, Steel and composite structures, Structural monitoring, Loss estimation, Decision tools, Communicating risk.

Participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded a certificate of participation.

The course fee is Rs. 18,000/- (Rupees Eighteen Thousand Only) per participant. It includes course material, lunch, and tea breaks.


The postgraduate students and faculty of structural engineering may request a discount in course fee.
