About the workshop:
This workshop aims to provide engineers with the basic concepts for the modeling and simulation of engineering systems using the MATLAB and Simulink, computer aided design software. Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical and Mechatronics Engineers would be benefit from the experience and expertise gained from the programme of study which would be focused on engineering applications.
The basic physical principles for electro-mechanical systems would be examined. Simple modeling and simulation methods would be introduced. Block diagram representations would be outlined enabling the construction of complex, interactive models.
A combination of electro-mechanical techniques enabling the evaluation of the steady state and the system transient performance in a systematic, scientific manner would be advocated. Simple examples relating the performance of engineering component and sub-assemblies would be presented using time and frequency domain methods.
Current techniques for linear, non-linear models and simulation procedures would be revised. Worked examples would be formulated for class participation and investigation.
About the speaker:
Dr Alaa A-Ameer is a Mechanical Engineer with an extensive teaching and research experience in modelling, simulation, and condition monitoring, control and management systems. He was awarded the Degrees of Bachelors of Science (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering in 1979 and Master of Science (MSc) in Applied Mechanics (Tribology) in 1983 from the University of Technology in Baghdad. Since 1990, Dr. Ameer worked in UK universities building a wide range of technical and research skills and liaising with numerous industries, professional and government bodies.
In 2001 Dr. Ameer gained his PhD in Engineering Systems Modelling, Simulation and Control from the University of Bradford, and sub request contributed to the lecture courses in Engineering Systems and Control in the School of Engineering, Design and Technology - University of Bradford-UK.
Dr Ameer's research encompasses engineering systems modelling, dynamics analysis and regulation related to industrial systems and processes. He has published in many journals and has presented papers at numerous international conferences.
