Hi Vaisakh,

Act now
to protect the forests

We already know that the coal scam is a reality, but the ‘final’ CAG report is due out later today. Whatever number games our government plays, the coal scam will still be the biggest our country has ever seen.

The leaked version put the total loss at Rs 10.67 lakh crores,[1] we’ll find out what the ‘final’ version has to say soon. The figures might change,[2] but the fact that we’ve been cheated won’t. The government still wants to continue stealing the livelihoods of people, harming tigers and ransacking forests in Central India for coal. Do you want them to succeed? If not, then:

You should ask the PM stop all new coal block allocations and forest clearances until the coal scam has been investigated and there is a clear demarcation of areas that shouldn’t be mined.

Don’t just stop at signing the petition. Tell every person you know about how our government is cheating us and pushing an agenda that is going make a few people rich at our cost.

This will help get 100,000 signatures on this petition by October. That’s when we’ll deliver these to the PM. Here’s how this will work:

  • The PM is hosting an international Convention on Bio-diversity(CBD) in October.
  • We’ll give him this petition in front of the entire world at this conference.
  • A 100,000 people asking the PM to save the forests, when he’s discussing conservation with the entire world, will put pressure on him to make a commitment.
  • Protecting forests will no longer be a fight between ministries. It will be a commitment made to the world, and not fulfilling it will hurt the reputation of the PM and our country.

Forests in Central India have about 35% of the country’s 1700 wild tigers.[3] There are leopards, elephants and other wildlife too. These forests are a means of livelihood for thousands of communities. Coal mining will endanger all of them.

We need to get 100,000 signatures asking the PM to protect the forests by October. Sign now

Thanks!
