I am delighted to tell you that the SOE – UAE has signed an agreement with ASTM International that will teach members of both organizations more about the other and increase the level of cooperation in mutual interest areas, particularly engineering. The agreement offers opportunities for SOE-UAE members to join ASTM International and discusses future potential collaborations for symposia and workshops, training, publications and more. Formed in 1898, ASTM International is a not for profit globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of international standards. Today, some 13,000 ASTM standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance safety, facilitate market access and trade and build consumer confidence. ASTM members number more than 30,000 of the world’s top technical experts and business professionals representing 135 countries. Their customers are in many different industries, in almost every country and include most of the world’s largest corporations.
Beyond its leadership in the area of standards development, ASTM offers technical training programs for industry and government, as well as proficiency testing, inter-laboratory crosscheck programs and newly initiated certification programs, which support manufacturers, users, researchers and laboratories worldwide.
ASTM standards are widely used in the United Arab Emirates and across the wider Gulf region. ASTM also has an agreement with Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology (ESMA) to aid the development of national UAE standards.
Joining ASTM

Becoming an ASTM participating member can enhance your expertise and boost your professional career. Participate in the development of high quality, market relevant standards that advance technology and innovation. Participating members are required to vote on the electronic ballots (circulations of the standards proposals to be reviewed by members) and can devote as much time as they wish to the standards development process. Attendance at meetings is highly encouraged, however it is not required.

Environmental Product Declarations ProgramEnvironmental product declarations (EPDs) provide quantifiable environmental data to compare products that fulfill the same function. In order to create comparable EPDs, they must follow the same rules and guidelines called product category rules (PCRs).
PCRs, similar to standards, are best developed in a collaborative manner and ASTM is uniquely positioned to provide the venue for developing industry PCRs.
As a Program Operator, ASTM International has developed its program in conformance with ISO 14025 - Environmental Labels and Declarations - Type III Environmental Declarations - Principles and Procedures.www.astm.org/certification
