to Shelter Solution for Haiti
To All,
Network news regarding the situation in Haiti has all but stopped here
in the States. But, my prayers and thoughts never leave you all trying
to help.
Amongst all the problems on the ground in Haiti...clearing all the
rubble, political inertia, and trying to shelter the thousands left
homeless, it seems the task to rebuild Haiti is almost insurmountable.
Since the problem of land ownership issues appears to be at the root
of making progress on building the T-shelters, I offer another idea.
The TESS Shelters I have designed using composite panels may offer
another viable option to get people into decent shelters as quickly as
possible.
The TESS Composite Panel Shelters can be build on deck barges. The
barges can be tied up in harbors or inlets along the coastline to
create floating cities. Barges can be rented and, depending on size,
can accommodate 20 to 60 TESS Basic Shelters.
After the BP oil disaster in the Gulf, hundreds of barges were used to
stave off the oil from the coastline. Maybe some of these idle barges
can be put to use.
Once the land issues are settled the TESS Shelters can be fork lifted
from the barges and trucked to the permanent (or transitional) home
site.
I have updated my TESS Proposal to show how this may work and I have
attached a copy under the "File" section of this discussion group.
I hope my ideas maybe of some help.
With best and kindest wishes to all of you,
Edison
