Greetings all,

I've set up a Google project site for haitianstories.org (http://
sites.google.com/site/haitianstoriesprojectsite/). I find it much
easier to use a Google site rather than a wiki for this sort of thing.
My hope is that we can build a loose team of contributors to see this
project through. We need all types to really make a difference with
Haitian Stories.

Anyone can view the project site, see the progress, and subscribe to
updates. If you want to join the team and really make a difference
your best bet is to post a message in this thread and I can add you as
a contributor. That way you can post announcements, add tasks, and
take ownership of tasks so we don't have people duplicating work.

With any luck we can keep the work going in the upcoming crisis camps
and detailed project tasks and descriptions will be a great help.

This is great David. Thanks for setting up this centralized place for planning that does not require one to learn arcane wiki markup language. ;)

Kyle (cc'ed) sent over a mockup of a new design for the homepage in both JPG and Photoshop PSD. I uploaded these files to the Files area on the Google Site. Thanks Kyle! http://sites.google.com/site/haitianstoriesprojectsite/file-cabinet

I updated some of the tasks on the task list that I've started working on or almost have complete. I couldn't figure out how to assign an owner though. http://sites.google.com/site/haitianstoriesprojectsite/to-dos

Completed
---------------
1) added Google Analytics code so we can track usage of the site.
Let me know if you want access to the Google Analytics account to review stats.

2) added UserVoice code so there is now a "Feedback" link on the left side. http://haitianstories.uservoice.com.
Let me know if you'd like to moderate the UserVoice forum, and I can give you access.

3) added Twitter portlet to the right column - also requested a Tweetboard account. http://tweetboard.com
Let me know if you'd like to help promote Haitian Stories via Twitter, and I can give you access to the account.

In progress / almost completed
----------------------------------------------
1) You can now upload a video file and it will be sent to Youtube for transcoding (http://www.youtube.com/haitianstories), and appear on the Haitianstories website as a story.

2) Over the weekend I added the ability to record a video or audio using your computer's built-in webcam. You can see this in action on the development server (hasn't been deployed to production yet): http://ec2-174-129-96-170.compute-1.amazonaws.com/story/record/

3) I'm working on the feature to post an audio recording to the site simply by calling a phone number and leaving a voicemail message.
This is also very close to working, just discovered a bug in the RSS feed that Drop.io is generating that must be resolved before it will work. Call the phone number on this page to see how it works: http://drop.io/crcl2u28457

4) Sara used the Microsoft Translator to start translating the text from English to Creole French, but I don't know how far she got. Sara? http://www.microsofttranslator.com/BV.aspx?ref=Internal&a=http%3a%2f%2fhaitianstories.org

So who all in Boston is coming to the CrisisCamp on Feb. 13th? I'm hoping that we can tackle some of the outstanding tasks, and also coordinate efforts with the Open Solace folks (Jonah is cc'ed).

Thanks everyone again for your help and support!

Nate

Hi David, Thank you for your information. I viewed the site, which is going
to be great. Please include me. I understand that I will be working on
identifying the categories.
Thanks,
Carol

Yes, please work on the categories. Right now, there are no categories and it would be good to have them as people started submitting stories.

thanks,
Nate

Nate,
One category
"Initial Reactions From Around the World".
Where do you want categories posted?

Just send the proposed category list to this mailing list, and we can riff on it.

thanks,
Nate
