Hi - I'll work on #4 in the non-tech list:  Identify the various categories that we want to use when someone adds a story.

    Hi again,

Now that the site is up and running, here are some things that need to be done, divided into technical tasks and non-technical tasks. I'm hoping that the work that was started on saturday can continue with your help, because I cannot do all of this by myself...

    Technical:
    1. localize all the templates so that we can add Creole French strings. Brad mentioned that the instructions for how to do this are here: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/topics/i18n/
    2. move the repository from private subversion repo to public Github. I'd like to do this and preserve all the history, but there's one wrinkle - I don't want to move the settings.py file which has all the secret passwords in it.
    3. upload an audio recording file, not just a video file possibly using drop.io (http://dev.drop.io/getting-started/)
    4. call in to a phone number to submit an audio story. this works on the OurStories.jazkarta.com site.
    5. send a text message to a phone number or short code to submit a text story.
    6. get the audio/video recording via webcam feature working (http://haitianstories.org/story/record/)

    Non-technical:
    1. testing - try out all the site features and try to break the site. report bugs and make suggestions for improvements.
    2. make some large buttons to make it easier for illiterate people to know how to submit their story
    3. make a video that describes the purpose of the site and how to use it to share your story (then translate to Creole)
    4. identify the various categories that we want to use when someone adds a story.
    5. translate the site from English to Creole French (any translators out there?)
    6. promote the site on Twitter via our Twitter account. http://twitter.com/haitianstories
    7. blog about the site
    8. connect with the other CrisisCamp folks who are working on similar projects, and try to find ways to collaborate with them. OpenSolace (mailing list: http://groups.google.com/group/open-solace-haiti/) and HaitianVoices.

Anyone want to step up and take on one or more of these tasks?

Just a reminder that there is a Haitian Stories google group where we will be moving the conversation (so I don't have to include everyone's email address in the CC field). If you didn't already click on the invite link to join, please go to the site and join the group.

    thanks,
    Nate

Great, thanks Brad, Diane and Carol for offering to help!  I just found out that Microsoft Translator not supports Creole French, so that might speed up the first-pass of translations. Then we can get a native Creole speaker to proofread the translations to make sure they make sense.

Thanks for getting everything deployed, Nate!

I'm willing to help complete the internationalization stuff, but may not
have time until next week, I'm afraid.
