What do Mirlande Manigat and her Party the RDNP stand for?

Dear Friend,

Women’s Rights, the Young, Work, Family Values, Education, a Stronger Economy, Regaining our Sovereignty in a New Haiti. This is what Mirlande Manigat is fighting for and it’s up to each of us to make sure everyone else knows it.

That’s why Mirlande Manigat’s campaign themes espouse Capitalism with a Human Face. It’s what she’s talking about wherever she goes whether in Haiti or the Diaspora. (A diaspora whose enlightening role in a New Haiti would be enshrined in a revamped Constitution and government policies.) Unlike her opponent’s well known DOUBLE PERSONALITY PROBLEMS, she is a woman of Honour that the People can TRUST to KEEP HER PROMISES.

I know you’re being asked the same questions that I am: What do Mirlande Manigat and her Party the RDNP stand for? What are we fighting for?

Here are my answers:

  • First, Mirlande Manigat is fighting for your family. That means starting at the very center of Haitian Society, its “POTO-MITAN” i.e. Women and the Young of all walks of life that are mothers, sisters, family providers etc. Women’s health and child care, free primary education and affordable post-secondary education for your kids, health care for a sick loved one, and a more secure Food and National Security Policy. Her Priorities in fighting for families will be to aggressively attack the inhumane problems of the 1 Million displaced by the earthquake and still living in the camps, and to eradicate to the largest extent possible the introduced cholera bacillus using an integrated health policy revolving around clean water, vaccination and a prevention campaign with the help of international partners.
  • Second, Mirlande Manigat is fighting for a strong Haitian economy. That means a disciplined rapid phase-out of the failed neo-liberal policies that have crippled our economy to its knees. She is proposing a NEW DEAL with all economic actors i.e. “Capitalism with a Human Face” for everybody to profit from the benefits of prosperity. The Dominican Republic did it in 20 years so why not us? To create most needed jobs  for the young all over the country in agriculture, agro-industry and other priority sectors like energy (including electricity), IT, environment, education and infrastructure. Decentralization and regionalization are at the forefront of her program to diversify our economy. She believes it possible for Haiti to take off in a 20-30 year timeframe with the help of our Diaspora and foreign investors. All economic actors will be able to count on a competent Government team that will put forward effective policies to attract and keep National and Foreign investments. Good Governance and the Rule of Law benefit all, for the greater good of the largest number.
  • Third, Mirlande Manigat is fighting to restore our National Dignity as a People. That means first respect for us and the Presidential Function. What better person to do this when her respectable political career has been compared to Hillary Clinton’s? As Former First Lady and International Lecturer, she commands respect from stakeholders in the International Fora wherever she goes. She embodies a responsible, competent, transparent government that will respect existing agreements but will wisely and pragmatically negotiate terms in the best interests of Haitians of all walks of life. As a Constitutionalist, she guarantees the maintenance of democratic institutions, the rule of Law and social Justice.
  • Fourth, Mirlande Manigat is fighting for TRUE CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN. Unlike her opponent’s shady past and empty promises, that do not survive basic levels of scrutiny — such as promising to build a “University in every city”! — she has a realistic 5 year goal: “to put Haiti on the rails of Development”. Like most Haitian Experts of Nation Building and Rebuilding, she believes that future governments who will follow in her footsteps in a healthy Democratic political alternance may realize the 20-30 year objectives of a Real Haitian Take-off similar to the Dominican Republic’s with the ultimate Goal of “the Pursuit of Happiness for All”. POU TOUT MOUN JWENN!!!

So next time you’re asked what Mirlande Manigat stands for, look them straight in the eye, and tell them straight up: We stand for families and for the future of Haiti’s youth.

You can find out more about Mirlande Manigat’s priorities and where she stands on the issues and make your citizen contribution anonymously to the campaign by credit card or Paypal on the official Mirlande Manigat Campaign website: http://www.rdnphaiti.org/

    Thank You.
