HOMILY OF THE FORUTH SUNDAY OF LENT (March 10th, 2013)
Jos. 5, 9a + 10-12; Psalm 34; 2 Cor. 5, 17-21; Luke 15, 1-3 + 15-32
The well-know parable of the Prodigal Son as told today emphasizes the incredible mercy of God who is always ready to welcome back the repentant sinner, no matter how ugly his sin might have been. No one should continue to wallow in the muddy waters of evil as we approach Easter. The example of the repentant son is made to inspire us. Like him we are called to say: “I shall get up and go to my father and confess my sins.”
Many may say that they have nothing in common with this disgusting play boy who foolishly wasted away his father’s fortune. But we strangely look like him when we act irresponsibly, as when we commit sins of deceit, of anger, of grudges, of grumbling, of pride and vanity or when we act selfishly and seldom help neighbors in distress or when we succumb to lust, miss Sunday mass for no good reasons, gossip and slander on a daily basis. The lack of disciplined efforts to pray, read Scripture and serve the community are clear signs that the time has come for us to go back to the Father.
A good examination of conscience and recourse to sacramental confession are the prescribed remedies to achieve a new birth in the spirit. Without these steps, Easter is an empty word.
Like the repentant son put on new clothes (new habits and ways) and sit at the family banquet table (the Eucharist). Hurry, beak away from evil ways and throw yourself in the arms of your loving Father!
He is waiting for you. Why should you further delay? The time has come!
HOMÉLIE DU QUATRIÈME DIMANCHE DE CARÊME (10 Mars 2013)

Tu te souviens sans doute de la Parabole de l’Enfant Prodigue. L’Église ose nous demander aujourd’hui si au fond nous ne lui ressemblons pas. Comme lui, nous avons tout reçu de Dieu: la vie, l’intelligence, tous nos moyens. Trop souvent nous nous servons de nos facultés et de nos biens pour notre bienêtre presqu’exclusif. Il arrive à plus d’un d’être rempli de colère, de mauvaises dispositions vis-à-vis des autres. Il y en a même qui sont injustes, voleurs, gaspilleurs, totalement assujettis aux plaisirs de la chair et à bien d’autres habitudes avilissantes. En agissant ainsi, nous dilapidons les biens de Dieu.
Cette parabole de l’enfant prodigue nous enseigne que Dieu est un Père aimant qui ne prend aucun plaisir à punir les méchants. Il est tout pardon, toute miséricorde. Il accueille avec une tendresse infinie le pécheur coupable qui reconnait sa faute et l’avoue humblement.
Nous sommes à moins de vingt jours de la fête de Pâques, cette fête du retour des pécheurs à la maison du Père. Vas-tu rester à végéter dans les jardins miséreux de l’Ennemi y cherchant une joie illusoire? La joie de la grâce est préférable aux faux-plaisirs fuyants du prodigue vite dépourvu et affamé.
Saisis l’occasion de cette Fête de Pâques pour t’examiner la conscience sincèrement, recevoir l’absolution sacramentelle des mains d’un prêtre dispensateur des dons divins et revêtir les habits festifs de la maison royale. Dépêche-toi de t’asseoir à la table de la communion et de la Vie!

A Woman of Politics and Hope-Editorial
One of the most influential black women in Canada today, Dominique Anglade, was able to make time in her extraordinarily busy schedule for an interview with me on Radio Solidarité on March 1. We are most grateful.
This brilliant young icon of the Haitian community of Montréal is an engineer by training, but she is also active in the Coalition Avenir Québec party and recognized by business newspapers in Quebec as one of the ten most important women moving that province in the right direction.
Mrs. Anglade is the daughter of the late Georges Anglade and Mireille Neptune Anglade. Georges was a noted Haitian-Canadian Geographer and politician who strongly opposed the Duvalier regime. He was one of the great Haitian intellectuals of our time and one of the founders of Québec University in Montréal. Mireille was a respected women’s rights advocate. Both died tragically in the earthquake that shook Haiti in 2010.
In the interview, Mrs. Anglade told us about her academic formation. She has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and a master’s degree in business administration. As a talented, highly educated professional, she urges our Haitian youth to study assiduously, because hard work will enable them to make a difference in society.
She pointed out her closeness to the poor in Haiti through the KANPE Foundation, whose mission is to fight against the cycle of poverty by making poor Haitian families financially autonomous. She added that all the problems of poverty are linked to the lack of a strong middle class and the lack of education. She said we’ll know Haitian society is progressing when we are able to create wealth and give those most in need a chance to share in that wealth.
Mrs. Anglade is very involved in politics, in the Coalition Avenir Québec, whose mission is to put the province back on its feet, fight corruption and to help more 16-year-olds to complete their high school education. Too many of them don’t have that chance. She believes politics, properly practiced, can change the world for the better.
She shows great love for Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, and she believes it needs a government as good as its people and a top-quality system of education and health. Mrs. Anglade reminded us of her vivid experience in Haiti as a teenager during the election of 1990. She continues to be optimistic about Haiti, because our motherland has a lot of people who are highly competent and really love Haiti.
The life of our motherland is filled with paradoxes and questions. Why are there more Haitian physicians in New York than in Haiti? Why it is so difficult for us to eradicate poverty in our country and to build a well educated, prosperous middle class? At The Weekly Bulletin of The National Center of the Haitian Apostolate, and at Radio Solidarité, we continue to believe in the social doctrine of the church and to encourage our brothers and sisters to become involved in politics, because it is one path to the transformation of our society and to new hope for the poor in this world of corruption and inequality, where the rich become richer and the poor poorer. If we are looking for a model of political involvement, Dominique Anglade is one, a great ambassador of the Haitian community in Canada.

J’ai été très heureux d’avoir une entrevue, pour les auditeurs et auditrices de Radio Solidarité, le 1er mars 2013 avec l’une des icônes de la communauté haïtienne de Montréal, Mme Dominique Anglade, ingénieure de formation, présidente du Parti de la Coalition Avenir Québec et reconnue par les journaux d’affaires du Québec comme l’une des dix 10 plus grandes femmes qui fait un travail merveilleux en vue de faire bouger le Québec dans la bonne direction.
Il est important de savoir que Mme Dominique Anglade est la fille du regretté Georges Anglade qui fut l’un des plus grands intellectuels haïtiens de ce temps, l’un des fondateurs de l’Université du Québec à Montréal. Il est mort tragiquement avec sa femme dans le séisme qui a secoué Port-au-Prince et ses environs le mardi 12 janvier 2010.
En outre, dans l’entrevue qu’elle nous a accordée Mme Dominique Anglade nous a parlé de "sa formation académique: elle a un baccalauréat en Génie industriel et une maîtrise en Affaires de l’entreprise". Elle évoqua aussi "ses plus grands moments comme professionnelle" et exhorta les jeunes à "étudier parce qu’ils peuvent faire une différence dans la société". Elle souligna "sa grande proximité avec les pauvres en Haïti" par le biais de la Fondation Kanpe qu’elle a fondé en 2010.
Selon Mme Dominique Anglade, Kanpe a pour mission de "lutter contre la pauvreté en Haïti en aidant des familles haïtiennes défavorisées financièrement" et elle ajouta que "tous les problèmes de la pauvreté en Haïti sont liés a une classe moyenne inexistante". De ce fait, "on a intérêt à travailler pour la création d’une classe moyenne éduquée". Car "la société progresse quand nous sommes en mesure de créer de la richesse et la distribuer à ceux qui ont le plus besoin".
Il faut souligner que Mme Anglade est très impliquée dans la politique. Comme mentionné plus haut, elle est la présidente de la coalition Avenir Québec, dont la mission est de remettre le Québec sur ses pieds, lutter contre la corruption et d’aider les jeunes de plus de 16 ans à terminer leurs études secondaires, car aujourd’hui, il y a beaucoup d’entre eux au Québec qui n’ont pas achevé leurs études secondaires. De plus, d’après Mme Anglade, "la politique est un moyen de changer les choses dans le monde et aussi d’avoir un impact sur la société".
Mme Anglade manifesta son grand amour pour Haïti, considéré comme le pays le plus pauvre de l’Amérique" et insista sur le fait qu’"Haïti a besoin d’un État fort avec une administration publique fonctionnelle, sans oublier un bon système d’éducation et de santé". Elle nous rappela son expérience en Haïti comme adolescente lors des élections de 1990. Elle se dit "optimiste dans le cas d’Haïti", car "nous avons beaucoup de gens qui sont très compétents et qui aiment le pays".
Mme Dominique Anglade est vraiment l’une des ambassadrices de la communauté haïtienne du Canada. Le grand paradoxe c’est que nous avons beaucoup de gens de la diaspora haïtienne qui sont en de très prestigieuses positions et qui font honneur à Haïti. Aujourd'hui, nous avons plus de médecins haïtiens à New York qu’en Haïti. Pourquoi est-il si difficile d’éliminer la pauvreté dans notre pays et d’avoir une classe moyenne qui a une bonne éducation? Nous au Bulletin hebdomadaire du Centre National et à Radio Solidarité, continuons à croire dans la doctrine sociale de l’Église et nous encourageons nos frères et sœurs à s’impliquer en politique, parce que c’est l’un des moyens de transformer notre société et pour permettre aux pauvres d’espérer dans un avenir meilleur dans ce monde miné par la corruption et l’inégalité, où les riches deviennent plus riches et les pauvres plus pauvres.

L’ingénieur Rose Pascal Durosier fut désignée la femme de l’année 2013 par L'Association des Ingénieurs et Scientifiques Haïtiano-Canadiens (AIHC). L’ingénieur Durosiers est parmi les Etoiles brillantes de la Communauté Haïtienne du Canada. C’est un honneur pour moi d’avoir un entretien avec celle qui fut l’ ambassadrice de la communauté Haïtienne de Montréal à la journée Internationale de La Femme.
Dans son entretien elle nous dressa un bref portrait de son profil académique et nous confia sa grande joie d’être reconnue par L'Association des Ingénieurs et Scientifiques Haïtiano-Canadiens (AIHC) comme la femme de l’année. Son grand amour pour Haiti où elle a travaillé comme Ingénieur jaillit de toutes ses phrases.
Rappelons que Rose-Pascale DUROSIER est une jeune diplômée de l’École Polytechnique. Elle détient un baccalauréat en Génie Civil avec orientation sur les ouvrages civils et souterrains (structures). Mise à part le génie, elle s’intéresse beaucoup au domaine artistique dans lequel déjà elle évolue comme choréographe et danseuse semi-professionnelle de la troupe Ekspresyon, une compagnie de danse folklorique haïtienne qui cherche à mettre en valeur les beautés de sa culture. Elle a aussi travaillé avec de grands maîtres de ballet comme Eddy Toussaint, Miguel Campanera et Régine Montrosier Trouillot. On doit ajouter qu’elle a seulement 10 ans à Montréal la voici déjà ingénieure et fondatrice d’une école de danse qui a pour nom Académie Pascale Pascal Durosier.
Ingénieur Durosier nous parla aussi de sa relation avec les jeunes femmes Haïtiennes du Québec qui selon elles ont fait beaucoup de progrès non seulement au niveau académique mais aussi au niveau des affaires car beaucoup d’entre elles commencent à être propriétaires des petites et moyennes entreprises.
Il faut aussi mentionner que l’ingénieur Durosier est une ancienne étudiante des sœurs de Sainte Rose de Lima. Elle est très douée et compte parmi les femmes Canado Haïtiennes qui font bouger le Québec dans la bonne direction.
Le Centre National de l’Apostolat HAITIEN tient à féliciter Melle Pascal Rose Durosier d’être reconnue par l’association des Ingénieurs Canado haïtiens comme femme de l’année tout en demandant au peuple de Dieu d’applaudir cette Etoile Haïtienne du Québec . Engineer Durosiers is one of the stars of the Haitian community in Canada. I am very honored to have an interview with this ambassador of the Haitian community in Montreal Canada for the International Day of Woman.
In her interview she drew a brief overview of her academic profile and her great joy to be recognized by the Association of Engineers and Scientists Haitian-Canadians (AIHC) as the Woman of the Year and her great love for Haiti where she worked as Engineer
It is important to remind that Ms. Rose Pascale DUROSIER is a young graduate of the École Polytechnique, she holds a Bachelor of Engineering with orientation for civil works and underground (structures). Aside from the genius, she is very interested in the artistic field in which it already operates as a choreographer and dancer semi-professional troupe Ekspresyon, a Haitian folk dance company showcasing the beauty of its culture. She has also worked with great masters of ballet as Eddy Toussaint, Miguel Campanera and Régine Montrosier Trouillot. We must add that she has only 10 years `in Montreal, She is Engineer and founder of a school of dance is called Pascal Pascale Durosier Academy.
Engineer Durosier also spoke of her relationship with the young women of Haitian community of Quebec which she says have made progress not only in academic but also in business because many of them are starting to be owner of the small and medium enterprise
It is important to mention that Engineer Durosier is an alumnus of the Sisters of St. Rose of Lima in Haiti, she is very talented and among women of the vibrant Haitian Community that move the Quebec in the right direction.

Hommage à Ma regrettée mère Marie Elisabeth Germain
9 Mars 2009-9 Mars 2013
Le 9 Mars 2013 marque exactement 4 ans depuis que ma tendre mère, mon tresor est retournée à la maison du Père. Je profite de ce 4ème anniversaire pour lui rendre encore un vibrant hommage et pour lui dire combien son grand départ continue à créer un grand vide dans ma vie. Avec les yeux de la foi je crois qu’elle est au ciel car sa vie terrestre fut un témoignage d’amour et de foi pour tous ceux qui ont la chance de vivre très proche d’elle.
Ce 9 mars 2009 fut un choc pour moi lorsque mon frère Jean Claude de Montréal m’appela pour m’annoncer cette triste nouvelle. Chaque Année ma tendre mère avec mon père laissaient Montréal pour aller passer l’hiver en Haiti où ils étaient toujours contents de passer la Noel et le Nouvel An.
Une semaine avant sa mort j’étais au téléphone avec elle. Elle était souffrante mais je ne savais pas que c’était la dernière fois j’avais la chance d’entendre sa voix. Je continue à me rappeler tout ce qu’elle a accompli pour moi pendant mon enfance, combien elle m’a choyé et les sacrifices qu’elle a consenti pour nous aider à nous instruire. Depuis sa mort je peux affirmer j’ai perdu mon million, mon trésor , une conseillère et une grande amie.
Je puis dire que depuis son départ je ne suis plus la même personne car je me mets souvent à méditer sur la mort à laquelle tout le monde doit faire face un jour. Je me demande si nous prenons toujours du temps pour méditer sur la brièveté de la vie terrestre et pour nous demander pourquoi certaines personnes amassent des fortunes pour plusieurs générations, prennent un malin plaisir à exploiter les faibles, voler et même assassiner frères et soeurs quand nous savons qu’un jour nous devrons tout laisser pour nous présenter devant le tribunal céleste pour un jugement rigoureux de notre vie terrestre.
Chère mère je profite de ce 4ème anniversaire pour te dire combien je t’aime et je suis sûr que tu continues à m’aimer car l’amour d’une mère est éternel. Je dois ajouter que tu continues à être mon héros et mon ange et je te demande de continuer à implorer le Seigneur pour tes enfants, ton mari et ta famille. Je sais que là où tu es tu vois nos désirs, prie pour nous et accompagne nous chaque jour dans cette lutte que nous menons sur terre. Je crois avec les yeux de la foi que tu es avec moi chaque jour. Tu es toujours dans mes pensées et je continue à croire que tu es mon ange au ciel. Encore une fois merci pour tout et repose en paix

March 9, 2013 was exactly 4 years since my dear mother, my treasure is returned to the `Father's house. I take this fourth anniversary to make a vibrant homage to her and to tell her how her great departure continues to create a great void in my life. With the eyes of faith I believe she is in heaven because his earthly life was a testimony of love , faith , solidarity for all those who are lucky enough to live very close with her
March 9, 2009 ,was a shock for me when my brother Jean Claude from Montreal called me to tell me the sad news. Each year my dear mother with my father left Montreal to spend the winter season in Haiti and they were always happy to spend the Christmas and New Year in their homeland.
A week before her death I was on the phone with her, she was suffering but I did not know if it was the last time I had the chance to hear her voice and our last conversation. I still remember `has everything she has done for me during my childhood, how she was pampered and sacrifices she has agreed to help us to have education. Since her death I can say I lost my million, my treasure, a great advisor and a wonderful friend.
since her departure I'm not the same person I meditated a lot on death or everyone must face one day. Maître Clémenceau Fouché fut un éducateur, avocat de renom, et membre de la Loge du Cap Haïtien.
Durant sa carrière dans l'enseignement au Cap Haïtien on on le retrouve formant près de 5 générations de jeunes Capois et Capoises
au Lycée Phillipe Guerrier, au Collège Notre Dame, au Collège Nesida Montreuil, et a l'Institution les Cours Raymond Gratia pour ne citer que ces établissements.
Il a servi comme Directeur Régional du Ministère de l'Education Nationale pour le Département du Nord.
Il était aussi professeur de Droit a l'Ecole Libre de Droit du Cap Haïtien ou il devint Doyen et Directeur.
Il était Contentieux a la Banque Nationale de la République d'Haiti au Cap Haïtien.
En 1986 on le retrouve membre du Comité du Renouveau du Cap institué pour aider la ville et la société capoise a se reprendre des méfaits des 30 ans de la dictature des Duvalier.
Maître Clemenceau prit une retraite bien méritée et malgré tout resta actif comme référence académique, sociale, et légale
au sein de la métropole du Nord.

I regret to announce to you the passing of my dad Attorney Clemenceau Fouché
affectionately known as Papa Doudou in Cap Haitien, Haiti
on the 26 of February 2013.
He was a brother, a spouse, a father, a grandfather, a great grandfather, an uncle, and cousins to many.
He teaching career spanned more than 5 decades in Cap Haitien at institutions such as the Lycée Phillipe Guerrier, the College Notre Dame, the College Nesida Montreuil, les Cours Raymond Gratia, et l'Ecole Libre de Droit du Cap Haitien where he became the Dean and Director.
In addition he was the "Contentieux" or lawyer of the National Bank of Haiti in Cap Haitien.
In 1986 he was involved in setting up the Committee For Renewal of Cap Haitien, an entity created to help the city of Cap Haitien and the population recover from the hardships of the 30 years dictatorship of the Duvaliers.
After his retirement, he remained a reference in the areas of academia, the law, civic and social matters

He will be missed by all, particularly by:
his wife, his brother, his sisters in law, his children, his grand children, his great grand children, his nephews and nieces, his cousins, and by a legion of former students, friends and allies too numerous to name.

Ancien vice-président du Praesidium Notre-Dame du Perpétuel Secours de la Comunauté Haitienne à St Camillus. Il fut l’un des anciens très connus et respectés dans la Communauté Haïtienne dans la région Métropolitaine de Washington DC. La messe de funérailles du regretté Jacques Lemaire sera chantée le Lundi 11 March 2013 à 10h du matin en l’église de St Camillus, Silver Spring, MD.
En cette douloureuse circonstance, nous adressons nos sympathies à ses enfants Pascale, Sandra, Philippe, et à tous les relatives affectés par ce deuil. Jacques, comme dirait St Paul, a vécu le bon combat, en gardant fidèlement sa foi. Il a été éprouvé dans les derniers jours de sa vie terrestre par une longue maladie courageusement supportée. It is with regret and sadness that I announce the death of Mr. Jacques Lemaire occurred on Wednesday morning March 6, 2013 at the age of 79. He used to be the vice-president of the Praesidium Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the Haitian Community.
In this painful circumstance, on behalf of the Haitian-American Catholic Community in Washington, DC, I present our deepest sympathy to his children Sandra, Pascale, Philippe and all relatives afflicted by this passing.
The viewing will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, West, Silver Spring, MD Sunday March 11, 2013 from 7 to 9 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday March 11 at 10 AM at St Camillus Church, 1600 St Camillus, Dr Silver Spring, MD and the interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Arizona Miss Edna Aurelus-Interview
Edna is among of the candidates of Miss International Haiti 2013. She moved to the USA in December 1996 with her family at the age of 17.. She did not waist anytime, in 2005 she earned her bachelor of science in nursing, in 2008 she earned Masters of science in nursing and she is currently attending Arizona States University, where she is getting her Doctorate in nursing practice. Her dissertation is in prescription drug abuse among teenagers in the USA, and she will initiate a structured educational program to help reducing re-admission among this population. I am very happy to have an interview with her for the readers of the weekly bulletin of the National Center
Good morning, Edna Aurelus .
Good Morning Brother Tob
Could you tell us about your childhood and the influences to led you into nursing as a profession?
I grew up in Fort-Jacques. My grand father, Franchil Achille who since passed in 1994 was the biggest influence in me becoming a nurse. He would always tell me “Edna, you will be great”. He was such a positive influence. I had the opportunity to sit by his bedside to watch him during his last moments. I decided during that time that I will become a nurse some day.
Do you recall an event that really touched your life?
My mother went to the river to wash our clothes and on her way back she fell and injured her leg. Although she was in severe pain, when she got home she said that she said that she would not let her children go to be without cooking. She cooked us dinner. That gesture shows me how she would sacrifice her life for her children.
Please tell us about one of the biggest moments of your professional career?
One of biggest moments was when I started my health care business EVS Health Services LLC.
Could you tell us what problems and challenges face Haitian nurses?
One of the problems that I think Haitian nurses are facing are the language barrier and sometimes racism
What advice would you give to future Haitian candidates for nursing careers?
I would encourage them to continue updating their education, by attending conferences, getting certified on their specialty so they have more ability to grow.
Could you give us a brief picture of the Haitian Community in Arizona?
I don’t know too much about the Haitian community here in AZ, but I had the opportunity to attend one of the churches service. I believe they have three Haitian churches
Please tell us your interaction with the Haitian Community in Arizona.
My interaction is minimal because where I resides I don’t know any Haitian. However, after the earth quake I had the opportunity to meet some of the victims who came for medical treatment and we were able to speak to each other.
What are the challenges of black female nurses in Arizona? Did you ever experience racism in your profession?
Well I can only talk about my experience, it has not been bad so far. However racism will always be there, what’s important that no matter what happened you just keep on moving forward.
What does mean International Day of women for you?
To me, international day of women means putting all women on a pedestal while spoiling them with love and respect.
Please tell us what really motivate you to have Doctorate in nursing practice?
My life is my motivation, I always felt as if the sky is the limit, therefor I figure, why not completing my academic career by earning my doctorate.
Could you give us a brief summary of your dissertation on prescription drug abuse among teenagers in the USA?
Approximately, 1 in 5 teens had tried prescription medication to get high.
· 8% of teens reported using cough medicine to get high.
· 56% of teens reported that prescription drugs are easier to obtain than illegal drugs. These statistics are pretty serious, therefore I am looking to see what can be done to reduce or eradicate these numbers.
Please tell us of your vivid experience with youth women in prison in Arizona.
Professionally, it was a great experience, but personally it was a very dark place. The manupilative behavior is a way of life there among the women. It is a survival of fittest mentality way.
Could you give us the reasons who motivate you to be among the candidates of Miss International Haiti 2013?
One of the reasons that motivate me is the opportunity that pageant will give me to bring awareness both nationally and internationally regarding the women education for all Haitian women.
Could you tell us how do you use pivotal position to advance the causes of Haitian Women in USA?
I used my position by working hard and save enough financially and go to Haiti to provide clinical help and counseling to the people there.
Tell us why poverty is a cancer to progress in the global context?
It is a cancer to progress in a global context, because it prevent growth in every way. Anything that prevent growth or evolution is absolutely worthless. I wish we could eradicate poverty.

Edna Aurelus l’une des candidates pour Miss International 2013 fut l’invitée de Brother Tob à Radio solidarité le Samedi 2 Mars, 2013. Edna habite en Arizona et elle est une candidate pour un Doctorat en Soins infirmiers.
Rappelons qu’Edna laissa Haiti en l’année 1996 `à l’Age de 17 ans. Depuis son arrivée aux États Unis elle comprit vite la nécessité d’aller aux études. En 2005 elle eut son baccalauréat en soins infirmiers et en 2008 sa maitrise en soins infirmiers et maintenant elle est candidate pour un doctorat dans cette même discipline. On doit ajouter qu’Edna s’est mariée et elle a 2 gentilles petites filles
Dans son entretien elle nous parla de la communauté Haïtienne d’Arizona qui s’élève à 1000 personnes et des grands moments de sa carrière professionnelle où elle a travaillé dans un centre de psychiatrie et dans une prison pour les jeunes filles ou elle rencontré une jeune Haïtienne condamnée pour possession de drogue. Elle ajouta que cette jeune Haïtienne a été violée par l’homme qui l’avait adopté dans son jeune Age. La jeune fille lui fit savoir qu’elle est victime de son boy friend qui lui a demandé de transporter une boite pour lui et dans cette dernière se trouvait de la Cocaïne quand elle fut attrapé par la police.
Elle mentionna son grand amour pour Haiti, c’est ce qui explique que presque chaque année elle se rend en Haiti soit pour des ateliers sur la santé soit pour assister les femmes d’Haiti. C’est l’une des raisons qui l’ont motivée à participer à ce concours de Miss International. Elle ajouta que selon un rapport de l’UNICEF en 2010 que 59% des femmes Haïtiennes n’ont pas d’éducation et elle compte utiliser sa plate formée pour encourager l’éducation des femmes d’Haiti.
Elle exhorta les jeunes de prendre leurs études au sérieux car l’éducation ouvre toutes les portes sauf la porte du ciel. Edna est une femme de forte personnalité, que personne ne peut faire reculer et qui comprend qu’il n’y a pas de cadeau sur terre. L’on doit travailler très fort pour réaliser ses rêves.
Nous devons noter que le concours de Miss International n’est pas centré seulement sur la beauté physique mais c’est un concours pour encourager le leadership chez les femmes et aussi pour aider les femmes à réaliser leur rêve. Le centre National de l’Apostolat HAITIEN à l’étranger félicite Edna pour son grand amour pour Haïti et pour sa profonde motivation pour les études. She left that position to retire in November 2009

Miss Lydia Lucien- candidates of Haiti’s Miss International Teen
I was happy to interview Miss Lydia Lucien on Sunday Mars 3rd, 2013. She is one of the candidates of Haiti’s Miss International Teen of 2013. Lyndia is only 16 years old. She lives in Pignon -Haiti.
She gave us a brief picture of Pignon which she described as a small town located in the central\northern part of Haiti. She added that her native town is very open even though very small. In Pignon, everybody knows everybody and most of her parents and grandparents are from the village “so we all have a common history and take pride in our hometown,” she says.
It is interesting to know that Lyndia Mother is an American who has been living in Pignon for close to 20 years. It seems that Lydia is very smart and one the rising stars of Haiti . One of her biggest dreamS is to become a physician or an educator so as to give the youth of Haiti access to education. According to a UNICEF report in 2010 close of 59% of Haitian women do not have an education. Ms. Lyndia took the opportunity of her interview to let us know that the challenges of the Pignon youth are similar to those of the rest of the country. She added that a drastic scarcity of opportunities plagues our nation. Besides church related activities and their schools very little is done to keep the youth occupied.
Lyndia mentioned also that she is competing for Miss Teen Haiti International because she wants to be a good role model for younger girls to look up to her. She hopes to use her increased resources to broaden her influence and make a change not only in her community but in the country as well.
I have to point out also that her platform is “Educating our children, empowering our nation” because she believes that the only way to have lasting change in our country is to educate the population. Once equipped with the right tools, we can begin to change our country and to teach others to do the same.
We can say that with young people like Lyndia, Haiti will rise again because more than half of the population of Haiti is below the age of 25. Lyndia wants to follow in the footsteps of Engineer Hermanie Pierre, honored as the 2012 Miss International Haiti.

J'ai été très heureux d'avoir un entretien pour les auditeurs et auditrices de Radio Solidarité, le dimanche 3 Mars , 2013 avec Lydia Lucien, l'une des candidates de “Miss International teens” de 2013. Lyndia est âgée 16 ans et vit à Pignon-Haiti.
Elle nous donna un bref aperçu de Pignon nous disant que c’est une petite ville située dans la partie centrale du Nord d'Haïti. Elle dit aussi que sa ville quoique petite est très ouverte. Elle ajouta que tout le monde y connaît tout le monde et que la plupart de ses parents et grands-parents sont originaires de son patelin, “si bien que nous avons tous une histoire commune et sommes fiers de notre ville natale.”
Il est intéressant de savoir que la mère de Lyndia est une américaine et vit à Pignon depuis près de 20 ans. Il semble que Lyndia est très intelligente et l’une des étoiles montantes d’Haiti. On doit ajouter que l’un de ses plus chers rêves est de devenir médecin ou éducatrice afin d'aider les jeunes d’Haiti à accède à l’éducation. Selon un rapport de l'UNICEF en 2010 près de 59% des femmes haïtiennes n'ont pas fréquenté l’école. Elle profita de son entrevue pour nous faire savoir que les grands défis de la jeunesse de Pignon sont les mêmes qui se retrouvent dans le reste d'Haïti. Elle ajouta que Notre défi est une carence de salles de loisirs et de terrain de sports parce que, outre les activités liées à l'église et à l'école, Presque rien n’existe pour occuper les jeunes.
Lyndia mentionna également qu'elle est en compétition pour Miss Teen International parce qu'elle veut être un modèle pour les jeunes filles et elle espère qu’avec ses ressources, elle pourra étendre son influence et faire un changement non seulement dans sa communauté, mais dans son pays,
Je dois souligner aussi que sa plate-forme est «Éduquer nos enfants, car elle croit que la seule façon d'avoir un changement durable dans notre pays est de fournir aux jeunes les moyens d'obtenir une très bonne éducation.
Nous pouvons dire qu’avec les jeunes comme Lyndia Haïti renaitra de ses cendres, car plus de la moitié de la population d'Haïti à moins de 25 ans. Lyndia veut suivre les traces de l'Ingénieur Hermanie Pierre, reconnue comme Miss Haïti internationale de 2012. Le personnel du Bulletin hebdomadaire du Centre National de l'Apostolat Haïtien à l’étranger tient à féliciter Melle Lyndia pour son grand amour pour Haïti tout lui souhaitant bonne chance pour la compétition de Miss internationale adolescente de 2013 à Miami. Exploitation d'enfants: une urgence humanitaire et morale
Déclaration de Mgr Tomasi
Pour le Saint-Siège, l'exploitation sexuelle des enfants "requiert une attention particulière et urgente et une action à la fois humanitaire et morale".
Mgr Silvano M. Tomasi, observateur permanent du Saint-Siège aux Nations Unies à Genève, est intervenu dans le cadre de la 22ème session du Conseil des droits de l’homme, sur le « Rapport du rapporteur spécial sur la vente et la prostitution d’enfants et sur la pornographie impliquant des enfants », le 7 mars 2013.
L'exploitation sexuelle des enfants "requiert une attention particulière et urgente et une action à la fois humanitaire et morale", a déclaré l'archevêque, qui souligne que pour prévenir ce "fléau", il faut "s'attaquer aux causes profondes qui rendent les gens vulnérables", "améliorer les soins pour les victimes" et lutter contre "la culture consumériste".
"Loin de diminuer, le fléau de la traite des êtres humains se développe et se diversifie avec l'augmentation de la mobilité humaine et la mondialisation de la communication et du commerce", a constaté l'archevêque qui a cité "des millions de personnes victimes de trafic aux fins d'exploitation sexuelle et de travail forcé", provenant "d'au moins 136 nationalités différentes" et "118 pays" avec une majorité de femmes (55-60%), mais un flux d'enfants qui "progresse à une vitesse alarmante, de 20% entre 2003-2006 à 27% entre 2007-2010", 58% étant des exploitations sexuelles.
Eradiquer la demande
Le phénomène des enfants "victimes des fantasmes sexuels des adultes" a été "aggravé récemment par la libéralisation des comportements sexuels", a-t-il estimé, faisant observer que "comme dans tout marché, l'offre répond à une demande".
Par conséquent, "le trafic d'enfants existe parce qu'il y a une demande" et "pour bloquer le marché", il faut "affronter et combattre les « consommateurs » qui sont prêts à payer pour les « services » d’un enfant", a-t-il poursuivi.
Pour Mgr Tomasi, la prévention ne peut se contenter d'être judiciaire: elle doit aussi "s'attaquer à la culture consumériste qui stimule et favorise les désirs sexuels malsains et immatures et poussent les « consommateurs » vers ce marché" : "La prévention doit oser demander ce qui s'est passé pour le touriste qui recherche ce genre de « service ». Comment se crée, au départ, le marché de l'exploitation sexuelle ?"
Ainsi le Saint-Siège a mis en garde : "Si la compréhension que l’on a de la liberté individuelle rejette les limites éthiques imposées par la nature elle-même, la traite des personnes et la violation de leur dignité inhérente continueront de se produire, et l'action de l'Etat sera inefficace."
Renforcer la répression
La prévention consiste aussi en "l'adoption et l'application d’une législation qui criminalise la consommation de pornographie juvénile ou les abus sexuels d’enfants", a-t-il ajouté, appelant à " mener une poursuite efficace des trafiquants".
"Il y a un besoin évident de mettre à jour la législation, de renforcer la coopération internationale et régionale, de partager les informations et les bonnes pratiques, de lutter contre l'impunité et la corruption, d'améliorer les pratiques judiciaires", a insisté l'archevêque.
"Dans le cas de la traite des enfants, les risques [de répression] sont faibles à bien des égards et dans de nombreuses régions du monde", a-t-il dénoncé, et "il devient tentant de faire des profits élevés", car "l'objectif des trafiquants est avant tout économique".
La tâche de prévention implique donc "le changement d’une culture qui justifie l’exploitation des personnes et tolère en toute impunité la violation de la sécurité humaine, véritable terreau pour la vulnérabilité de l’être humain".
Faire disparaître la vulnérabilité
Or, cette "vulnérabilité" est au cœur du problème: en effet, a expliqué Mgr Tomasi, "la pratique des trafiquants prédateurs se nourrit des plus faibles, de personnes qui sont déjà dans le besoin et donc faciles à enlever, asservir et réduire à l’état de « marchandises »".
Il s'agit donc face à ce "fléau" de "renforcer la sécurité humaine" et de "s'attaquer aux causes profondes qui rendent les gens vulnérables", vulnérabilité exacerbée par "la persistance de la crise économique, les guerres et les conflits civils actuels, les prix élevés des denrées alimentaires, la famine, la misère et la migration, les bouleversements politiques…"
L'archevêque appelle également à "identifier les survivants, en leur fournissant un soutien pour les préparer à une vie productive exempte de traumatismes", c'est-à-dire à "améliorer les soins pour les victimes et fournir les moyens de réinsérer celles-ci dans la société par une vie normale et digne".

DePaul University selects Notre Dame leader for provost post
CHICAGO — Donald B. Pope-Davis, professor of psychology and for the past six years the vice president and associate provost at the University of Notre Dame, has been elected provost of DePaul University in Chicago by its Board of Trustees.
Pope-Davis will become DePaul’s chief academic officer in July, stepping into the position held on an interim basis this academic year by Patricia O’Donoghue, DePaul’s vice president for alumni outreach and engagement. O’Donoghue succeeded Helmut Epp, who served as provost for the previous seven years.
“We think highly of Dr. Pope-Davis’ intellectual work as well as his broad service to his academic colleagues in academic administration at Notre Dame,” said the Rev. Dennis Holtschneider, C.M., president of DePaul University. “Unanimously, everyone at DePaul also was moved by his obvious love for students, especially those who are the first to attend college in their families.”
Search Committee Chair and Trustee Connie Curran said, “We had an outstanding pool of candidates, but the search committee felt that the breadth of Pope-Davis’ academic experience in scholarship and leadership will be a strong asset in implementing DePaul’s strategic plan.”
“The university community was strongly supportive of his candidacy when we reviewed their feedback,” said Board Chair James Jenness. “And, the 10 deans were unanimous in their support for his leadership. It made for an easy choice.”
Pope-Davis, who came to Notre Dame as a professor in 2000, was named vice president and associate provost for undergraduate studies in 2011. In that role, his responsibilities included undergraduate admissions, faculty promotion and tenure, expanding opportunities and participation in undergraduate scholarship and research, and overseeing the academic honor code. Previously, he was vice president and associate provost for faculty affairs, from 2007-2011.
Prior to his work in the Office of the Provost, Pope-Davis held several administrative positions in Notre Dame’s Graduate School, including the post of interim vice president for research and dean.
“DePaul makes a significant and lasting impact in the world,” said Pope-Davies. “I am thrilled and privileged to join its vibrant and diverse community of scholars, students and staff toward the realization of its great mission.”
Pope-Davis earned his doctorate in counseling psychology from Stanford. He has a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and theology from Benedictine University in Illinois. He previously taught and conducted research at the University of Maryland and the University of Iowa.
Pope-Davis studies in the areas of multicultural psychology, counseling and education. Specifically, he is interested in cultural and racial identity development, cultural competency training, development and assessment.
He is the co-author of three books on multicultural counseling and has published extensively in journals in the field. Pope-Davis is a research fellow of the American Psychological Association. His productivity as a researcher was recognized in 2008 in a survey that rated him as the third-leading contributor to the multicultural counseling competencies literature between 1986 and 2005. He recently co-authored a 2011 report on African-American Catholics. The largest sampling ever of its kind, the survey examined the religious engagement of African-Americans with the Catholic Church and identified demographic trends facing the church.

Venezuela : funérailles en grande pompe pour Hugo Chavez
Le vice-président du Venezuela Nicolas Maduro brandit une réplique de l’épée de Simon Bolivar avant de la remettre à la famille d’Hugo Chavez.
Le Venezuela rend un dernier hommage, ce vendredi 8 mars 2013, à son président Hugo Chavez décédé des suites d’un cancer mardi dernier. Trente-deux chefs d'Etat et de gouvernement sont venus assister à la cérémonie. Le vice-président Nicolas Maduro va prêter serment dans la soirée pour devenir président par intérim en attendant la prochaine élection présidentielle qui aura lieu dans les 30 jours. Après la cérémonie, des centaines de milliers de personnes attendaient encore aux abords de l'Académie militaire pour voir la dépouille du « Comandante » une dernière fois.

Près de l’Académie militaire de Caracas, des millions de Vénézuéliens vêtus de rouge se sont déjà regroupés pour rendre un dernier hommage à leur président Hugo Chavez. Depuis mercredi, un flot continu de visiteurs défile devant la dépouille de l’ex-chef de l’Etat.

As Christians the moment of our baptism invites us to live a new life of love by renouncing the way of “Satan” i.e. all evil and professing our absolute faith and trust in God. During the ritual of baptism we are exorcised of evil and our past sins and invited to embrace God’s way of love and to receive the HOLY SPIRIT and his blessings.

As baptized Christians in whom the Holy Spirit dwells we are empowered by God to love our God and our neighbor. Such Love compels us to work for justice for all peoples. Our love of our brother-sister- neighbor compels us to desire for them what we desire for ourselves… love, forgiveness and just relationships with God and one another.
Last week I had the privilege of attending the Africa Faith and Justice Network Conference http://www.afjn.org/which was held here at Notre Dame .The Network works to educates and advocates for a transformation of U.S. policies toward Africa. Grounded by a commitment to social justice, AFJN brings the most important issues affecting the people of Africa to our lawmakers in Washington, D.C. The three workshops I attended focused on “Charity or Justice for Africa;” “Land Grabs and Good Investments in Africa; “and “Human Trafficking.” The first explored Catholic Social Teachings implications relative to just criteria for Foreign Assistances. Sometime Foreign Assistance can have a negative impact on the livelihood of the native farmers and business and contribute to work against the building a strong self-reliant nation. The Second updated the participants on the practice of taking place by private companies, sovereign wealth funds and others and others that exploit and violate the rights of African people. The Third, spoke of the selling, abduction and sexual exploitation of young African female youth. African Congregations of women religious are leading a movement to abolish these devastating practices. In all three cases missionaries were collaborating with native Africans to change situations of injustice in to ones of justice.
As we reflected on the situations in Africa it became apparent that the injustices we witnessed there were also present in the United States and other nations.
The patterns of land grabbing, destabilizing foreign assistance and human trafficking continue to divide and devastate Haiti and other nations. In the US we witness the re-gentrification of our nation’s central cities as upper mobile young adults move from the suburbs to establish new jobs, and invigorate corporation and social life enriched by the museums, clubs and art and literary programs of the city while displacing the urban poor and forcing them to move to areas with less supportive resources.
The unemployment situation in the United States is a direct consequence of corporations closing US factories and sources of production in the US and exporting them to the 2/3 world because they could pay the workers less. US labor unions that demanding a living wage for workers are often not replicated in the 2/3 world. Finally human trafficking and sexual exploitation through prostitution is rampant in many areas of our country.
In all situations of exploitation, devaluation and objectification the rich are getting richer materially while the poor are getting poorer but are spiritually rich if they use their poverty and live a simple life enriched by the joy of mutual sharing and caring. The story of the Prodigal Son which will be proclaimed this Sunday challenges us to re-examine our notion of social justice. Those who have much are challenged to respond with a spirit of generosity to those who have little or nothing. By these acts of charity and justice both the giver and the receiver are enriched humanly and spiritually. On this Laetare Sunday, the Fourth week of Lent, let us rejoice at the opportunity God is giving us to make all things new…to change our old patterns of oppression and self-destruction into life-giving patterns of collaborative charity and justice rooted in Love of God.
Just as the Father in the parable of the Prodigal son loved both his Sons. God loves both rich people and poor people, rich nations and poor nations. The rich must recognize and welcome their poor brothers and sisters, the poor must recognize and welcome their rich brothers and sisters. He challenges us all to share our spiritual and material riches with one another.
Our baptismal promises and reception of the Holy Spirit calls us to live or lives with a spirit of joy for others. Embracing this new life for others makes us and all things new.

Self-Determination Theory (SDT) is a contemporary macrotheory of human motivation which suggests that optimal human functioning and healthy development are based on the fulfillment of three psychological needs: competence, relatedness, and autonomy. The current book focuses primarily on autonomy, which is considered to be a core construct of SDT. Research has largely established the benefits of parental and teacher autonomy support for students in Western cultures. However, there is to date little empirical research on the perceptions of autonomy among adolescent immigrants. Thus, the overarching purpose of this book was to examine the relation of autonomy support to the outcomes of intrinsic motivation, school engagement, and self-regulated learning among a sample of immigrant students. The effects of immigrant adolescent perceptions of parental and teacher autonomy support on these three outcomes were assessed using standard multiple regression analyses. Pour la première fois une enfant née avec le virus du sida est aujourd’hui considérée comme guérie. L’annonce en a été faite lors de la 20e conférence annuelle sur les rétrovirus réunie du 3 au 6 mars 2013 à Atlanta, aux Etats-Unis. Cette guérison représente un nouvel espoir parce qu’elle rapproche un peu plus la perspective de parvenir à vaincre cette maladie qui touche 34 millions de personnes dans le monde, dont 24 en Afrique subsaharienne.
L’enfant, une fille dont ni le nom ni le prénom ne sont connus, est née fin 2010 dans le Mississipi. Dès sa naissance elle est contaminée par le virus du sida (VIH) transmis par sa mère séropositive qui ignorait être infectée. Aujourd’hui, l’enfant est apparemment guérie. Les médecins ont constaté que le virus n’avait pas complètement disparu mais sa présence est tellement réduite que le système immunitaire de l’enfant parvient à le contrôler sans qu’il soit nécessaire de lui donner un traitement antirétroviral. C'est ce que les médecins appellent une guérison « fonctionnelle ».
Traitement exceptionnellement précoce
Le cas de cette petite fille a été le clou de la 20e conférence annuelle sur les rétrovirus et les infections opportunistes qui se tient du 3 au 6 mars à Atlanta aux Etats-Unis. Même s’il faut évidemment rester très prudent et attendre de voir si cette « guérison » inédite est reproductible, elle n’en représente pas moins un espoir réel.
Un seul autre cas de guérison complète officielle existe, il concerne Timothy Brown dit le patient de Berlin, un homme séropositif qui a subi en 2007 une greffe de moelle osseuse pour traiter une leucémie. Or, il se trouve que cette moelle était porteuse d’une mutation génétique rare bloquant l’entrée du virus dans les cellules. Cet exemple bien particulier est unique jusqu’à ce jour et risque bien de le rester encore longtemps.
Le traitement mis en place sur l’enfant américain, moins de 30 heures après sa naissance et avant même de savoir si elle était infectée, a consisté en une trithérapie. Les chercheurs estiment que la précocité inhabituelle du traitement explique probablement sa guérison « fonctionnelle » parce qu'elle a permis de bloquer la formation de réservoirs de virus difficiles à traiter. Ce sont ces cellules « dormantes » qui, chez la plupart des personnes séropositives, font remonter l’infection dans les semaines qui suivent une interruption des antirétroviraux.
Dans le monde, 300 000 bébés concernés
La pédiatre Hannah Gay de l’hôpital universitaire de Jackson (Mississipi) qui a reçu la petite fille dans les heures suivant sa naissance, a constaté sous traitement antirétroviral, une diminution progressive de la charge virale jusqu’à ce qu’au 29e jour, le virus devienne indétectable. L’enfant a ainsi poursuivi son traitement jusqu’à ses 18 mois, âge auquel les médecins perdent sa trace durant dix mois. Aucun traitement antirétroviral ne lui est administré durant cette période.
Quand la petite fille revient à l’hôpital, les médecins font aussitôt des tests pour voir où en est l’enfant. Et là, ils constatent que la présence du VIH est indétectable, seules des traces sont repérées grâce à des analyses génétiques mais qui sont insuffisantes pour se répliquer. Un tel résultat après des mois sans traitement est rarissime et le cas de cette enfant, guérie selon toute apparence, pourrait bien changer la pratique médicale actuelle. Au vu de ce résultat, la virologue Deborah Persaud, principale auteure de l'étude clinique sur ce cas, estime qu'il serait intéressant d'instaurer un traitement antirétroviral beaucoup plus tôt qu'on ne le fait actuellement pour les nouveau-nés à haut risque. « Cela permettrait, souligne-t-elle, d'obtenir une très longue rémission sans antirétroviraux ».
Cela dit, dans tous les cas où cela est possible, le mieux est de traiter par antirétroviraux les femmes enceintes séropositives. Quand ce traitement est mis en œuvre il permet dans 98% des cas d’empêcher la transmission du virus de la mère à l’enfant. Mais dans les pays pauvres seules 60% des futures mamans reçoivent des antirétroviraux et ainsi, chaque année, quelque 300 000 enfants naissent infectés dans le monde. C’est pour ceux-là notamment que le traitement dont a bénéficié précocement la petite Américaine pourrait s’avérer salvateur.

It was nice talking to you the other day. I want to thank you, Bishop Sansaricq, Father Yvon and the staff of the Haitian Apostolate for nominating me as: Woman of the year. It was a big surprise. My family and I want to express to you all their profound gratitude. I accepted this nomination not for me but for all the wonderful women that the Lord put on my way, all the women who crossed my path. Those women had helped in many ways to make me what I am today. I do not want to name anyone to avoid jealousy but they are a colony, a trail of good ladies who cherished, trusted, and loved me up to this moment. Some of them assisted me when I was young, because my mother died when I was only 6 years old. Some of them gave me their support and encouragement when things were not too great. Many helped me in all my endeavors at the Center of the Haitian Apostolate as volunteers for the fundraising activities, the Kolej Pastoral, the Conventions, Retreats or simple office work. I am grateful to all and feel so blessed. All those women deserve to be nominated: Women of the year. I accept in their name and in their honor.

Hermanie Pierre- Miss Haiti International 2012 To Direct Miss/Mrs. HAITI International and Miss Teen Haiti Competitions in 2013

Hermanie Pierre, the current reigning MISS HATI INTERNATIONAL 2012, has been tapped by the organizers for Miss/Mrs. Haiti International and Miss Teen Haiti to direct the competitions for the upcoming pageant productions in 2013 that will take place in Miami, Florida at North Miami Senior High School (13110 NE 8th ave, North Miami, FL 33161) on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 6pm. Hermanie was selected as one of the top ten finalists in The MISS INTERNATIONAL 2012 and won MISS CONGENIALITY at the very same pageant. Hermanie is the 4th woman in Haiti pageant history that ever made to finalist since 1975. Hermanie says she wants to continue her work with young people and future involvement with pageants as a way to promote a positive image for Haitian communities around the US.
“I want to continue the legacy to our teens, young and married woman to promote Haiti to the positive image and help come Up with solutions for some of our issues we are having in our community and in Haiti.” states Hermanie, who resides in Little Rock, Arkansas and at 26 is one of the youngest Civil Engineers, not to mention one of the few female and African-Americans currently working on $90 million projects at Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.

The Miss Teen Haiti (ages 13-18) Miss Haiti International (ages19-29 Single, never married, no children) and Mrs. Haiti International (ages 21-56, married) Competitions traditionally focus on community service and platform issues of the individual contestants. The phases of competition consist of 40% personal interview and on stage question and presentation, 20% fashion runway and 20% fitness in a two piece custom aerobic wear outfit, and 20% evening gown. For the Miss Teen Haiti and Miss Haiti International 2013 competitions, the beauty queen and children’s advocate is looking to partner with various colleges to offer scholarship prizes to encourage young women to further their education. The winners of both competitions will have the opportunity to promote their platform (social, economic, political or charity) concerns and compete in the Miss Teen, Miss and Mrs. International pageants, at the Northshore Center for the Performing Arts in Chicago, Illinois.
One of the ways Hermanie brings her own platform, “A Better Tomorrow for Today’s Children: Building A New Generation.” to life is with Leadership Through Education. This is a scholarship fund that Hermanie created with her own money to help kids, and students experiencing a hardship to pay for school in Haiti. “I believe in Education and one of the ways I can create leaders is to help them get an education.”

HOMILY OF THE FORUTH SUNDAY OF LENT (March 10th, 2013)

The well-know parable of the Prodigal Son as told today emphasizes the incredible mercy of God who is always ready to welcome back the repentant sinner, no matter how ugly his sin might have been. No one should continue to wallow in the muddy waters of evil as we approach Easter. The example of the repentant son is made to inspire us. Like him we are called to say: “I shall get up and go to my father and confess my sins.”
Many may say that they have nothing in common with this disgusting play boy who foolishly wasted away his father’s fortune. But we strangely look like him when we act irresponsibly, as when we commit sins of deceit, of anger, of grudges, of grumbling, of pride and vanity or when we act selfishly and seldom help neighbors in distress or when we succumb to lust, miss Sunday mass for no good reasons, gossip and slander on a daily basis. The lack of disciplined efforts to pray, read Scripture and serve the community are clear signs that the time has come for us to go back to the Father.
A good examination of conscience and recourse to sacramental confession are the prescribed remedies to achieve a new birth in the spirit. Without these steps, Easter is an empty word.
Like the repentant son put on new clothes (new habits and ways) and sit at the family banquet table (the Eucharist). Hurry, beak away from evil ways and throw yourself in the arms of your loving Father!
He is waiting for you. Why should you further delay? The time has come!
HOMÉLIE DU QUATRIÈME DIMANCHE DE CARÊME (10 Mars 2013)

Tu te souviens sans doute de la Parabole de l’Enfant Prodigue. L’Église ose nous demander aujourd’hui si au fond nous ne lui ressemblons pas. Comme lui, nous avons tout reçu de Dieu: la vie, l’intelligence, tous nos moyens. Trop souvent nous nous servons de nos facultés et de nos biens pour notre bienêtre presqu’exclusif. Il arrive à plus d’un d’être rempli de colère, de mauvaises dispositions vis-à-vis des autres. Il y en a même qui sont injustes, voleurs, gaspilleurs, totalement assujettis aux plaisirs de la chair et à bien d’autres habitudes avilissantes. En agissant ainsi, nous dilapidons les biens de Dieu.
Cette parabole de l’enfant prodigue nous enseigne que Dieu est un Père aimant qui ne prend aucun plaisir à punir les méchants. Il est tout pardon, toute miséricorde. Il accueille avec une tendresse infinie le pécheur coupable qui reconnait sa faute et l’avoue humblement.
Nous sommes à moins de vingt jours de la fête de Pâques, cette fête du retour des pécheurs à la maison du Père. Vas-tu rester à végéter dans les jardins miséreux de l’Ennemi y cherchant une joie illusoire? La joie de la grâce est préférable aux faux-plaisirs fuyants du prodigue vite dépourvu et affamé.
Saisis l’occasion de cette Fête de Pâques pour t’examiner la conscience sincèrement, recevoir l’absolution sacramentelle des mains d’un prêtre dispensateur des dons divins et revêtir les habits festifs de la maison royale. Dépêche-toi de t’asseoir à la table de la communion et de la Vie!

A Woman of Politics and Hope-Editorial
One of the most influential black women in Canada today, Dominique Anglade, was able to make time in her extraordinarily busy schedule for an interview with me on Radio Solidarité on March 1. We are most grateful.
This brilliant young icon of the Haitian community of Montréal is an engineer by training, but she is also active in the Coalition Avenir Québec party and recognized by business newspapers in Quebec as one of the ten most important women moving that province in the right direction.
Mrs. Anglade is the daughter of the late Georges Anglade and Mireille Neptune Anglade. Georges was a noted Haitian-Canadian Geographer and politician who strongly opposed the Duvalier regime. He was one of the great Haitian intellectuals of our time and one of the founders of Québec University in Montréal. Mireille was a respected women’s rights advocate. Both died tragically in the earthquake that shook Haiti in 2010.
In the interview, Mrs. Anglade told us about her academic formation. She has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and a master’s degree in business administration. As a talented, highly educated professional, she urges our Haitian youth to study assiduously, because hard work will enable them to make a difference in society.
She pointed out her closeness to the poor in Haiti through the KANPE Foundation, whose mission is to fight against the cycle of poverty by making poor Haitian families financially autonomous. She added that all the problems of poverty are linked to the lack of a strong middle class and the lack of education. She said we’ll know Haitian society is progressing when we are able to create wealth and give those most in need a chance to share in that wealth.
Mrs. Anglade is very involved in politics, in the Coalition Avenir Québec, whose mission is to put the province back on its feet, fight corruption and to help more 16-year-olds to complete their high school education. Too many of them don’t have that chance. She believes politics, properly practiced, can change the world for the better.
She shows great love for Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, and she believes it needs a government as good as its people and a top-quality system of education and health. Mrs. Anglade reminded us of her vivid experience in Haiti as a teenager during the election of 1990. She continues to be optimistic about Haiti, because our motherland has a lot of people who are highly competent and really love Haiti.
The life of our motherland is filled with paradoxes and questions. Why are there more Haitian physicians in New York than in Haiti? Why it is so difficult for us to eradicate poverty in our country and to build a well educated, prosperous middle class? At The Weekly Bulletin of The National Center of the Haitian Apostolate, and at Radio Solidarité, we continue to believe in the social doctrine of the church and to encourage our brothers and sisters to become involved in politics, because it is one path to the transformation of our society and to new hope for the poor in this world of corruption and inequality, where the rich become richer and the poor poorer. If we are looking for a model of political involvement, Dominique Anglade is one, a great ambassador of the Haitian community in Canada.

Il est important de savoir que Mme Dominique Anglade est la fille du regretté Georges Anglade qui fut l’un des plus grands intellectuels haïtiens de ce temps, l’un des fondateurs de l’Université du Québec à Montréal. Il est mort tragiquement avec sa femme dans le séisme qui a secoué Port-au-Prince et ses environs le mardi 12 janvier 2010.
En outre, dans l’entrevue qu’elle nous a accordée Mme Dominique Anglade nous a parlé de "sa formation académique: elle a un baccalauréat en Génie industriel et une maîtrise en Affaires de l’entreprise". Elle évoqua aussi "ses plus grands moments comme professionnelle" et exhorta les jeunes à "étudier parce qu’ils peuvent faire une différence dans la société". Elle souligna "sa grande proximité avec les pauvres en Haïti" par le biais de la Fondation Kanpe qu’elle a fondé en 2010.
Selon Mme Dominique Anglade, Kanpe a pour mission de "lutter contre la pauvreté en Haïti en aidant des familles haïtiennes défavorisées financièrement" et elle ajouta que "tous les problèmes de la pauvreté en Haïti sont liés a une classe moyenne inexistante". De ce fait, "on a intérêt à travailler pour la création d’une classe moyenne éduquée". Car "la société progresse quand nous sommes en mesure de créer de la richesse et la distribuer à ceux qui ont le plus besoin".
Il faut souligner que Mme Anglade est très impliquée dans la politique. Comme mentionné plus haut, elle est la présidente de la coalition Avenir Québec, dont la mission est de remettre le Québec sur ses pieds, lutter contre la corruption et d’aider les jeunes de plus de 16 ans à terminer leurs études secondaires, car aujourd’hui, il y a beaucoup d’entre eux au Québec qui n’ont pas achevé leurs études secondaires. De plus, d’après Mme Anglade, "la politique est un moyen de changer les choses dans le monde et aussi d’avoir un impact sur la société".
Mme Anglade manifesta son grand amour pour Haïti, considéré comme le pays le plus pauvre de l’Amérique" et insista sur le fait qu’"Haïti a besoin d’un État fort avec une administration publique fonctionnelle, sans oublier un bon système d’éducation et de santé". Elle nous rappela son expérience en Haïti comme adolescente lors des élections de 1990. Elle se dit "optimiste dans le cas d’Haïti", car "nous avons beaucoup de gens qui sont très compétents et qui aiment le pays".
Mme Dominique Anglade est vraiment l’une des ambassadrices de la communauté haïtienne du Canada. Le grand paradoxe c’est que nous avons beaucoup de gens de la diaspora haïtienne qui sont en de très prestigieuses positions et qui font honneur à Haïti. Aujourd'hui, nous avons plus de médecins haïtiens à New York qu’en Haïti. Pourquoi est-il si difficile d’éliminer la pauvreté dans notre pays et d’avoir une classe moyenne qui a une bonne éducation? Nous au Bulletin hebdomadaire du Centre National et à Radio Solidarité, continuons à croire dans la doctrine sociale de l’Église et nous encourageons nos frères et sœurs à s’impliquer en politique, parce que c’est l’un des moyens de transformer notre société et pour permettre aux pauvres d’espérer dans un avenir meilleur dans ce monde miné par la corruption et l’inégalité, où les riches deviennent plus riches et les pauvres plus pauvres.

Le 9 Mars 2013 marque exactement 4 ans depuis que ma tendre mère, mon tresor est retournée à la maison du Père. Je profite de ce 4ème anniversaire pour lui rendre encore un vibrant hommage et pour lui dire combien son grand départ continue à créer un grand vide dans ma vie. Avec les yeux de la foi je crois qu’elle est au ciel car sa vie terrestre fut un témoignage d’amour et de foi pour tous ceux qui ont la chance de vivre très proche d’elle.
Ce 9 mars 2009 fut un choc pour moi lorsque mon frère Jean Claude de Montréal m’appela pour m’annoncer cette triste nouvelle. Chaque Année ma tendre mère avec mon père laissaient Montréal pour aller passer l’hiver en Haiti où ils étaient toujours contents de passer la Noel et le Nouvel An.
Une semaine avant sa mort j’étais au téléphone avec elle. Elle était souffrante mais je ne savais pas que c’était la dernière fois j’avais la chance d’entendre sa voix. Je continue à me rappeler tout ce qu’elle a accompli pour moi pendant mon enfance, combien elle m’a choyé et les sacrifices qu’elle a consenti pour nous aider à nous instruire. Depuis sa mort je peux affirmer j’ai perdu mon million, mon trésor , une conseillère et une grande amie.
Je puis dire que depuis son départ je ne suis plus la même personne car je me mets souvent à méditer sur la mort à laquelle tout le monde doit faire face un jour. Je me demande si nous prenons toujours du temps pour méditer sur la brièveté de la vie terrestre et pour nous demander pourquoi certaines personnes amassent des fortunes pour plusieurs générations, prennent un malin plaisir à exploiter les faibles, voler et même assassiner frères et soeurs quand nous savons qu’un jour nous devrons tout laisser pour nous présenter devant le tribunal céleste pour un jugement rigoureux de notre vie terrestre.
Chère mère je profite de ce 4ème anniversaire pour te dire combien je t’aime et je suis sûr que tu continues à m’aimer car l’amour d’une mère est éternel. Je dois ajouter que tu continues à être mon héros et mon ange et je te demande de continuer à implorer le Seigneur pour tes enfants, ton mari et ta famille. Je sais que là où tu es tu vois nos désirs, prie pour nous et accompagne nous chaque jour dans cette lutte que nous menons sur terre. Je crois avec les yeux de la foi que tu es avec moi chaque jour. Tu es toujours dans mes pensées et je continue à croire que tu es mon ange au ciel. Encore une fois merci pour tout et repose en paix

I take this fourth anniversary to make a vibrant homage to her and to tell her how her great departure continues to create a great void in my life. With the eyes of faith I believe she is in heaven because his earthly life was a testimony of love , faith , solidarity for all those who are lucky enough to live very close with her
March 9, 2009 ,was a shock for me when my brother Jean Claude from Montreal called me to tell me the sad news. Each year my dear mother with my father left Montreal to spend the winter season in Haiti and they were always happy to spend the Christmas and New Year in their homeland.
A week before her death I was on the phone with her, she was suffering but I did not know if it was the last time I had the chance to hear her voice and our last conversation. I still remember `has everything she has done for me during my childhood, how she was pampered and sacrifices she has agreed to help us to have education. Since her death I can say I lost my million, my treasure, a great advisor and a wonderful friend.
since her departure I'm not the same person I meditated a lot on death or everyone must face one day. I wonder is that we take time to ponder how our life on earth is very short and why some people amass wealth for several generations, take pleasure in exploiting the weak, and even stole, murder his brothers and sisters and day we all leave for presenting celeste court order to report on our earthly pilgrimage
Dear mother I take this fourth anniversary to tell you how I love you and I'm sure you continue to love me as a mother's love is always eternal. Edna Aurelus l’une des candidates pour Miss International 2013 fut l’invitée de Brother Tob à Radio solidarité le Samedi 2 Mars, 2013. Edna habite en Arizona et elle est une candidate pour un Doctorat en Soins infirmiers.
Rappelons qu’Edna laissa Haiti en l’année 1996 `à l’Age de 17 ans. Depuis son arrivée aux États Unis elle comprit vite la nécessité d’aller aux études. En 2005 elle eut son baccalauréat en soins infirmiers et en 2008 sa maitrise en soins infirmiers et maintenant elle est candidate pour un doctorat dans cette même discipline. On doit ajouter qu’Edna s’est mariée et elle a 2 gentilles petites filles
Dans son entretien elle nous parla de la communauté Haïtienne d’Arizona qui s’élève à 1000 personnes et des grands moments de sa carrière professionnelle où elle a travaillé dans un centre de psychiatrie et dans une prison pour les jeunes filles ou elle rencontré une jeune Haïtienne condamnée pour possession de drogue. Elle ajouta que cette jeune Haïtienne a été violée par l’homme qui l’avait adopté dans son jeune Age. La jeune fille lui fit savoir qu’elle est victime de son boy friend qui lui a demandé de transporter une boite pour lui et dans cette dernière se trouvait de la Cocaïne quand elle fut attrapé par la police.
Elle mentionna son grand amour pour Haiti, c’est ce qui explique que presque chaque année elle se rend en Haiti soit pour des ateliers sur la santé soit pour assister les femmes d’Haiti. C’est l’une des raisons qui l’ont motivée à participer à ce concours de Miss International. Elle ajouta que selon un rapport de l’UNICEF en 2010 que 59% des femmes Haïtiennes n’ont pas d’éducation et elle compte utiliser sa plate formée pour encourager l’éducation des femmes d’Haiti.
Elle exhorta les jeunes de prendre leurs études au sérieux car l’éducation ouvre toutes les portes sauf la porte du ciel. Edna est une femme de forte personnalité, que personne ne peut faire reculer et qui comprend qu’il n’y a pas de cadeau sur terre. L’on doit travailler très fort pour réaliser ses rêves.
Nous devons noter que le concours de Miss International n’est pas centré seulement sur la beauté physique mais c’est un concours pour encourager le leadership chez les femmes et aussi pour aider les femmes à réaliser leur rêve. Le centre National de l’Apostolat HAITIEN à l’étranger félicite Edna pour son grand amour pour Haïti et pour sa profonde motivation pour les études. L’entrevue d’Edna sera diffusée sur les ondes de Radio Solidarité le Dimanche 10 mars 2013 `à 2:00 heures de l’Après midi.

She was a student at Columbia University in New York where she earned a Master’s degree in Journalism. we must add that she was the Spokesperson for the organization of the United Nations. She left that position to retire in November 2009

Le vice-président du Venezuela Nicolas Maduro brandit une réplique de l’épée de Simon Bolivar avant de la remettre à la famille d’Hugo Chavez.
Le Venezuela rend un dernier hommage, ce vendredi 8 mars 2013, à son président Hugo Chavez décédé des suites d’un cancer mardi dernier. Trente-deux chefs d'Etat et de gouvernement sont venus assister à la cérémonie. Le vice-président Nicolas Maduro va prêter serment dans la soirée pour devenir président par intérim en attendant la prochaine élection présidentielle qui aura lieu dans les 30 jours. Après la cérémonie, des centaines de milliers de personnes attendaient encore aux abords de l'Académie militaire pour voir la dépouille du « Comandante » une dernière fois.

18h37 : La cérémonie se termine. Le président par intérim Nicolas Maduro remet à la famille d'Hugo Chavez une réplique de l'épée en or de Simon Bolivar.
18h00 : Nicolas Maduro pendant une demi-heure rend un hommage vibrant au « Comandante » lui promettant d'honorer son testament moral, « son combat pour les pauvres pour l'éducation et un monde plus juste ». Puis il remercie les présidents et représentants venus de l’étranger pour leur présence. « C’est l’heure la plus dure et la plus tragique du XXIe siècle, dit-il. En 200 ans on n’a jamais menti autant à propos d’un homme ». Nicolas Maduro verse quelques larmes, la foule crie et applaudie en chœur. Et puis il ajoute : « Nous pardonnons à ceux qui l’ont offensé ». « La lutte continue, jusqu’à la victoire pour toujours ‘Comandate’ », ajoute-t-il, acclamé par l'assistance.
17h30 : Début de la cérémonie des funérailles à l'Académie militaire de Caracas, en présence de 32 chefs d'Etat et de gouvernement étrangers. Au premier rang : le Cubain Raul Castro, le Bolivien Evo Morales et l'Equatorien Rafael Correa. L’hymne national, joué par des musiciens issus des couches populaires, ouvre la cérémonie, suivi de moments forts : le futur président par intérim Nicolas Maduro soulevant l’épée du libérateur sud-américain Simon Bolivar et puis le défilé des chefs d’Etats devant le cercueil d'Hugo Chavez entièrement recouvert du drapeau jaune, bleu et rouge étoilé du Venezuela. L'Iranien Mahmoud Ahmadinejad embrasse le cercueil en levant le poing.

As baptized Christians in whom the Holy Spirit dwells we are empowered by God to love our God and our neighbor. Such Love compels us to work for justice for all peoples. Our love of our brother-sister- neighbor compels us to desire for them what we desire for ourselves… love, forgiveness and just relationships with God and one another.
Last week I had the privilege of attending the Africa Faith and Justice Network Conference http://www.afjn.org/which was held here at Notre Dame .The Network works to educates and advocates for a transformation of U.S. policies toward Africa. Grounded by a commitment to social justice, AFJN brings the most important issues affecting the people of Africa to our lawmakers in Washington, D.C. The three workshops I attended focused on “Charity or Justice for Africa;” “Land Grabs and Good Investments in Africa; “and “Human Trafficking.” The first explored Catholic Social Teachings implications relative to just criteria for Foreign Assistances. Sometime Foreign Assistance can have a negative impact on the livelihood of the native farmers and business and contribute to work against the building a strong self-reliant nation. The Second updated the participants on the practice of taking place by private companies, sovereign wealth funds and others and others that exploit and violate the rights of African people. The Third, spoke of the selling, abduction and sexual exploitation of young African female youth. African Congregations of women religious are leading a movement to abolish these devastating practices. In all three cases missionaries were collaborating with native Africans to change situations of injustice in to ones of justice.
As we reflected on the situations in Africa it became apparent that the injustices we witnessed there were also present in the United States and other nations.
The patterns of land grabbing, destabilizing foreign assistance and human trafficking continue to divide and devastate Haiti and other nations. In the US we witness the re-gentrification of our nation’s central cities as upper mobile young adults move from the suburbs to establish new jobs, and invigorate corporation and social life enriched by the museums, clubs and art and literary programs of the city while displacing the urban poor and forcing them to move to areas with less supportive resources.
The unemployment situation in the United States is a direct consequence of corporations closing US factories and sources of production in the US and exporting them to the 2/3 world because they could pay the workers less. US labor unions that demanding a living wage for workers are often not replicated in the 2/3 world. Finally human trafficking and sexual exploitation through prostitution is rampant in many areas of our country.
In all situations of exploitation, devaluation and objectification the rich are getting richer materially while the poor are getting poorer but are spiritually rich if they use their poverty and live a simple life enriched by the joy of mutual sharing and caring. The story of the Prodigal Son which will be proclaimed this Sunday challenges us to re-examine our notion of social justice. Those who have much are challenged to respond with a spirit of generosity to those who have little or nothing. By these acts of charity and justice both the giver and the receiver are enriched humanly and spiritually. On this Laetare Sunday, the Fourth week of Lent, let us rejoice at the opportunity God is giving us to make all things new…to change our old patterns of oppression and self-destruction into life-giving patterns of collaborative charity and justice rooted in Love of God.
Just as the Father in the parable of the Prodigal son loved both his Sons. God loves both rich people and poor people, rich nations and poor nations. The rich must recognize and welcome their poor brothers and sisters, the poor must recognize and welcome their rich brothers and sisters. He challenges us all to share our spiritual and material riches with one another.
Our baptismal promises and reception of the Holy Spirit calls us to live or lives with a spirit of joy for others. Embracing this new life for others makes us and all things new.

Hermanie Pierre- Miss Haiti International 2012 To Direct Miss/Mrs. HAITI International and Miss Teen Haiti Competitions in 2013

Hermanie Pierre, the current reigning MISS HATI INTERNATIONAL 2012, has been tapped by the organizers for Miss/Mrs. Haiti International and Miss Teen Haiti to direct the competitions for the upcoming pageant productions in 2013 that will take place in Miami, Florida at North Miami Senior High School (13110 NE 8th ave, North Miami, FL 33161) on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 6pm. Hermanie was selected as one of the top ten finalists in The MISS INTERNATIONAL 2012 and won MISS CONGENIALITY at the very same pageant. Hermanie is the 4th woman in Haiti pageant history that ever made to finalist since 1975. Hermanie says she wants to continue her work with young people and future involvement with pageants as a way to promote a positive image for Haitian communities around the US.
“I want to continue the legacy to our teens, young and married woman to promote Haiti to the positive image and help come Up with solutions for some of our issues we are having in our community and in Haiti.” states Hermanie, who resides in Little Rock, Arkansas and at 26 is one of the youngest Civil Engineers, not to mention one of the few female and African-Americans currently working on $90 million projects at Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.

The Miss Teen Haiti (ages 13-18) Miss Haiti International (ages19-29 Single, never married, no children) and Mrs. Haiti International (ages 21-56, married) Competitions traditionally focus on community service and platform issues of the individual contestants. The phases of competition consist of 40% personal interview and on stage question and presentation, 20% fashion runway and 20% fitness in a two piece custom aerobic wear outfit, and 20% evening gown. For the Miss Teen Haiti and Miss Haiti International 2013 competitions, the beauty queen and children’s advocate is looking to partner with various colleges to offer scholarship prizes to encourage young women to further their education. The winners of both competitions will have the opportunity to promote their platform (social, economic, political or charity) concerns and compete in the Miss Teen, Miss and Mrs. International pageants, at the Northshore Center for the Performing Arts in Chicago, Illinois.
One of the ways Hermanie brings her own platform, “A Better Tomorrow for Today’s Children: Building A New Generation.” to life is with Leadership Through Education. This is a scholarship fund that Hermanie created with her own money to help kids, and students experiencing a hardship to pay for school in Haiti. “I believe in Education and one of the ways I can create leaders is to help them get an education.”
