Dr. Jean Y. Plaisir is assistant professor in the Teacher Education Department at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). He holds a doctorate and two master's degrees from Columbia University Teachers College, with studies in TESOL, Comparative and International Education, and Applied Linguistics with an emphasis in Bilingual Education and Information Technology. Dr. Plaisir did undergraduate studies at Hunter College/CUNY, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Studies (Latin and Greek) and Romance Languages (French and Spanish Literature). Professor Plaisir currently teaches coursework in early childhood, childhood, and bilingual education at BMCC. He has been featured on a variety of publications and recruitment efforts seeking to increase the number of men in the Early Childhood field. His research focuses on the adjustments of children and families in the New York City public school system, the examination of Haitian communities in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, and the mitigation of socio-cultural issues in teacher education.
