Let's try to tie everything in to one plan? We can use the economic
development plan as a base since it has local buy in already and I know I
can get Edo, the mayor of Cayes-Jacmel, etc to endorse it. (Plus national
level has seen it as well) We can expand to include other groups
initiatives, including yours. I have a feeling that whomever can get the
most people, the most organized, wins in this game. The water generators,
wells, etc ties in really well with the template, as does generating
employment.
Can we start compiling lists of all the orgs in Jacmel and get them all on
board? I don't think any of us can get this done individually, but I think
we've got a good shot if we throw enough logos/endorsements/efforts in the
same direction. There is +/- 6 billion hanging out in funding allotted for
Haiti & general Caribbean economic development. Let's try to get some of
that using the quake momentum. If we can get a "Haitian" plan together
faster than national, or any of the aid groups running around like chickens
with their heads cut off...
Can you throw the stuff you are working on into a semi-detailed plan in a
word doc? We can make it an appendix/pull out document and I can reference
it throughout the plan.

Plans are slowly being worked on. I met with the grant writer over
the weekend to review a proposal we are putting together for one of
our programs in Jacmel that would hopefully generate some employment,
address eduction and the environment (preparing for 8 months for now).
Waiting to hear back on whether or not I'll be able to get a water
purification unit in Jacmel. Also, the Hero organization is looking
to collaborate with organizations on building some wells. Nothing in
stone, but still working towards it. Hopefully things work out. How
are things with you? Will you be able to send me information from the
ground in Jacmel, images, sounds, interviews, stories, etc? I would
greatly appreciate it. Take care and be safe.

Please excuse me for just responding to this email. Things have been
very busy. I agree 100% with your suggestion of streamlining
everything into one plan; it makes alot of sense for all of us to be
working together. With your permission I would like to go ahead and
adopt the economic plan as the agenda for The Road to Development. We
are making some changes to our website and would like to offer it as a
link on the website. I will go ahead and tell the designer to create
the link, if you do not agree let me know so that I can take it down.

Do you know of available funding that would fund some of our projects
that are part of the plan's economic initiative? Also, I'm in touch
with an organization who is sending down a water purification system
to Jacmel capable of producing thousands of gallons of water per day.
They are working closely with Cine Institute and one other
organization and suggest I collaborate with them on a united front -
can you put me in touch?

Thanks for getting back and please excuse me for the delay. I have
already sent your information (ne...@haitiaid.org) to the google group
we set up so that you can be added on and be kept abreast of whats
happening. There are other groups set up in the Boston area,
inclusive of NY but I'm not sure how helpful they will be to you, as
it seems like there is no coordinated plan - just a bunch of ego
pushers and intellectual masturbate rs. If you want I can send you
info to be included on those as well.
There are a few things that we at Road to Development (R2D) are
working on. They are multi-faceted and intended to stimulate the
economy. They include:
PATH (Promoting Achievement Through Harmony) - This is a summer
program for grade school and High school youth providing them with
academic scholarships. It's also designed to provide two-year paid
fellowships to high school grads, college students and young
professionals who will gain much needed community organizing and
management skills and hopefully transition into the positions of
middle management that Jacmel will need if industry is to function
properly. The younger youth will receive weekly stipends in addition
to the academic scholarships as they engage in reforestation projects,
community clean-ups, and soccer camps (curbing delinquent maladaptive
behavior). The final proposal should be completed soon. In the
meantime I can forward you a PowerPoint presentation.
Jacmel Online (JO) - This is a for-profit arm of the organization
intended on bringing the spot light on Jacmel (and Southeast). It
will be a virtual portal similar to AOL, Yahoo, etc. It will include
news, social media, yellow page info, virtually the go-to place for
everything Jacmel. We will launch it starting with the news/media
component as we notice that there is a lack of ACCURATE Haitian
representation of the facts on the ground in Haiti; young people will
be hired and trained in journalism and work for JO; news will include
national affairs as well.
The Farmers Collaborative - If all of Haiti will be hungry, as natives
of Jacmel, we intend to at least contribute towards the Southeast
being able to feed itself and position itself for exporting food to
other parts of the country as well. In the past, (I can remember back
when I was in the 5th grade) Jacmel area was able to produce fruits,
legumes, rice, meats; we want her to be able to do this again. It is
in fact the real wealth of the area. We are working in partnership
with farmers in New Hampshire who have offered to train people/farmers
in Haiti in sustainable agriculture. This will be a train-the-trainer
type of program where we will bring people to the States (remove them
temporarily from the chaos back home) get educated/trained, exchange
culture, etc and then go back home and work with small clusters of
farmers to train them what they learned. We will develop cooperatives
with the farmers (again an economic incentive to produce) to jump
start agricultural and horticultural production. Plans for this are
already in motion with request sent to pro-bono lawyers to assist with
the immigration aspect of the program.
Current collaborations that we are involved with: We are currently
part of a coalition for orphans and street children with an aim to
provide long term housing/education/care for them. We are
participating with the BC school of Social Work who is spearheading a
national initiative to incorporate a social work approach to the
reconstruction of Haiti.
Regarding the water purification system, the group here in the States
informed me that ACDI/VOCA and CineInstitute are receiving the machine
capable of producing a few thousand gallons of water daily. They
informed me that if I'm affiliated with them that R2D, together with
them can take a united front. I don't know how the CineInstitute
qualifies to receive the machine but that's besides the point. I only
hope the machine is not being used for propaganda - a common practice
in Haiti - and that it can be used to safeguard against future
calamities - just around the corner! I would like to establish a
relationship with them but no one I'm in contact with seems to
recognize them or be able to reach any of its leaders. I don't know
anything about ACDI/VOCA.

fits right with our mission and our programs. You may visit our
