In the meantime, could you please open Files and navigate to your iCloud folder where the .afphoto files are stored. Click and hold one of these files, then drag and drop it into Affinity Photo to open the file. We're a little unsure of the reason, but after closing all open files and then opening a file by dragging and dropping, this should clear out any saved cache and change the reported Documents & Data amount in your ipads settings for the app. Could you please try this and let me know if it helps?

I have the same problem, my file size was 6 gb and it went down once I closed the files I was working on, and they were regular sized files (most of them 20 megs), this happened using a first generation ipad pro. I don't know why this is happening, all the work files I got on Affinity Designer add up to around 300 megs. Please help, we love using Affinity design and Affinity photo, but this and constant crashes are driving us crazy.

Like in your video, first you choose brush size, little circle indicates that, but then it disappears when you start painting, i would like it to stay even when i am painting, like in photoshop, preferably with shape of brush it self

l was patiently waiting for affinity to fix the invisible erazor size, or brush size. Thinking it was an iOs issue. But it's not. Procreates Brushes ARE visible...Affinity, please fix this. a invible Eraiser is a pain in the but. Thank you.

I'm having this error with every jpeg picture, that doesn't allow me to edit a picture from Apple Photos with Affinity Photo. Here below, you can find the steps to reproduce the issue. It happens with every single photo.

In this case I open the Apple Document in Affinity Photo under "Rescent files". Then I open the photo to be changed via "Edit in Affinity Photo" in Apple Photos and copy all layers from the file opened first into this file. It's cumbersome but saves the job.

If I'm reading this correctly it appear this has been a known issue since May 2022. I'm currently testing Affinity 2 on a 30d trial and have this issue when attempting to edit an image in Apple Photos using Affinity 2 as an extension. This is a definite show stopper for me. Are you nearing a resolution or should I seek another software package for photo editing?

To be clear, this extension works "sometimes". The photo opens in Affinity, the edits save back to Apple Photos as they should. BUT it only works occasionally, not sure why, but this will not work for me. Please help me solve this.

I believe although do not fully remember that to do something similar in the overly priced competitor of affinity photo is by holding down alt (or maybe it was shift, but not both together) whilst cropping.

@AffinityMakesMeSmile @fde101 Although I figured out a workaround and so have others here, the workarounds are tedious and annoying when this is usually a core feature (either via key command or a top menu button) in any other mainstream photo editor I have worked with. It's not that there is not a workaround; it's the simple fact that it's the year 2020 and a workaround for such a simple command is needed.

Yeah I was going to say that he should be using Affinity Designer, too, but I still 100% agree that the crl modifier for crop and other tools is necessary with his job. You need to be able to symmetrically crop in from all sides. I'm a professional product photographer and it is the same story for me. I think the devs at Affinity Photo have no idea how important this feature is. Because they don't have it, I have to click and drag from each edge, one by one (or on the two vertices, but that offers less control for me). It is so, so painful.

You assume that photographers only know photography? Are you really going to insult me like that? I am actually familiar with Java and have done some programming. To be fair, it's simple stuff -- basic GUIs, bots to control my computer and do silly stuff like a graphing calculator in ms paint, bot to auto list items and scan screen, click on buttons, etc.

I do not own a dedicated slide scanner, negative conversion software or plug-ins. Instead of scanning, I used my DSLR, a 100mm macro lens and an LED backlight to photograph color negatives, which I brought into Affinity Photo in their original negative form. I shot RAW, but full sized TIFFs work equally well.

My other concern had been my creating frames with text for exhibiting my images, but the excellent and very personal response from Robin Whalley of Lenscraft to my concerns resulted in him not only advising me by email, that what I required was possible, but he went to what I consider to be the extra mile, and has produced a first class video tutorial which clearly and concisely created exactly what I require, I have to say that having been a long time subscriber to Lenscraft, not only is Robin a first class landscape photographer, but his tutorials on Affinity as well as the two books that I have purchased that he authored cannot be faulted for their clarity of explanation, though I believe he has no connection to Serif, as far as I am aware, he certainly makes a first class ambassador for their product.

I am attaching an image that I converted from a Fujifilm 35mm Raw (NEF) negative, using my Adobe Photoshop workflow, I then created the frame with text in Photoshop, the photograph was enlarged to 12 x 8 inches the frame was 16 x 8 inches, it was then board mounted for exhibition purposes.

My tutorial automatically inverts the negative image to a positive and sets the black film border to RGB 0/0/0. (This same approach also works in PS.) So, you only need to be concerned about the white and midtone points because the black point is already set. Getting a decent positive that does not clip any channels or destroy color relationships is relatively easy and quick in Affinity Photo. The rest is normal color correction and the choices we make, which are the real art and work of photo editing, whether converting a negative to a positive, or just normal editing of a digital camera capture. Anyway, you will need to do some things differently when switching from PS.

Affinity Photo has been described as an Adobe Photoshop alternative, and is compatible with common file formats such as Adobe's PSD (including Photoshop Smart Objects).[9][10][11] Functionality includes RAW processing, color space options, live preview of effects, image stitching, alpha compositing, black point compensation, and optical aberration corrections.[2] Working in Affinity Photo is always live, with pan and zoom at 60fps and non-destructive editing. It supports unlimited layers and a dedicated workspace for developing RAW photos; as well as RGB, CMYK, LAB, Greyscale color spaces with ICC color management and 16-bit per channel editing.[12][2]

Serif established an R&D team for Affinity Photo in 2009, headed by lead designer Andy Somerfield. A free beta test version was released to the public on 9 February 2015.[17] The initial stable release of Affinity Photo, version 1.3.1, launched on the Mac App Store on 9 July 2015 for macOS 10.7 and later.[5] In August Version 1.3.5 was released providing numerous bug fixes and improvements.[18] Version 1.4, in December 2015, added panorama photo stitching, support for macOS 10.11 El Capitan including six Affinity extensions for Apple Photos,[19] and augmented the languages supported in previous versions (English (US and UK), German, French and Spanish) with Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Japanese. Versions 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 in January and June 2016 provided stability and bug fixes, and the app was optimized for macOS 10.12 Sierra with version 1.4.3 in September 2016.[18]

The macOS version of Affinity Photo was received favorably by professional photographers, and Apple named it as the best Mac app of 2015.[28][29] In 2016, Affinity Photo was awarded the prize for Best Imaging Software by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) at Photokina.[30][31][29] In November 2017, the iOS app was named by Apple as its best iPad app of the year,[32][33] and Tom's Guide selected Affinity Photo for their first list of Best Tech Values.[34][35] In February 2019, Affinity Photo received Amateur Photographer's Software of the Year award,[36] followed by Photography News' Best Software award in March 2019.[37]

While less photo editing for photographers and more for graphic designers, a new live mesh warp feature lets users distort an image or file to match the surface of an underlying template. For example, you can use the non-destructive warp to make an image look natural on a warped page in a magazine or book. Texture artists will enjoy the new ability to adjust lighting information baked into normal maps.

I am with you when speaking about late purchasers.
Speaking about me I have used AP for 7 years or so, so I do not hesitate to pay full price again. More than that, I consider this full price too low, thus prohibiting affinity from more development.
Just an example: an alternative - not necessarily a copy - to LR might boost their business and serve me nicely.

Could I replace Capture One to do RAW editing with this? I need a new application but don't want to pay an arm and a leg to do my photo editing. Capture one served me well back in the day with the free versions for Sony ARW but not sure what's best to use now?

For what it's worth, I already see one fix: on my machine, V1 would often crash with 4 or more raw photos in development, if Hardware Acceleration was on. V2 isn't doing that anymore, even with 20 files (that I've tried so far).

Serif need to recognise that Photo is different to Designer and Publisher in that Photo is expected to cooperate with and support other software. Photo can often become the centre of someone's photo workfkow interfacing plugins, raw converters, photo viewers etc. Photoshops embrace of this cooperation greatly helped them to succeed. The MSIX installation debacle illustrates the importance of these aspects.
This type of functionality might be problematic with inter Serif apps but perhaps extra functionality added in Personas could sand box any issues?
