Hi Haiku masters:
I know how to add a Dept Chairperson in as a Shadower (Shadow permissions) to allow the chairperson to view the classes of the folks in his/her dept.

I am suspecting that the shadow feature does not extend to teacher-created classes, but only to the classes that I set up as domain admin? Am I correct? Some of my chairs are reporting they cannot see certain classes.

So, for example, if a teacher creates his own (master) class and creates sections, and then imports the rosters of 5 other classes into the master class, can the Dept Chair who has shadow ability see the teacher-created master class?

Best regards,

Hi, Brian!

How this works depends on whether Shadow permissions were assigned on a per-user basis or a per-Organization basis. There isn't any restriction that should prevent Shadowing from working for teacher-created classes.

If you'd like help with a specific case, I'd recommend heading over to support.haikulearning.com and submitting a help request with a couple examples of people who should be able to see certain classes via Shadowing, but can't.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Cheers,
Justin

As on option, I also have Chairs in as a co-teacher. Some prefer that option as the class is "easier" to access, in their opinion! My admins shadow though without issue but yes, you do have to assign those rights.

My sense from Chairs here (I am also on the tech team with Brian at St Eds) is that being a coteacher just results in information overload, since a lot of chairs have 8-10 teachers and 40 classes that they are overseeing.  If shadowing works I believe that would be the preference.

Hi Brian,

I'd check to make sure that the teacher-created classes in question were assigned to the correct suborg. we use this function for our coaches and advisors, although Chairs are assigned as coteachers so they can edit content if needed.

Thanks, Good tip. I checked and we have only one organization and no sub-organizations at this point.
