onan offtopic forum i've been a regular at for over a year now, at one point there was a few people posting all teh funniest memes and jokes and archived posts that wouldn't get them banned that they found on 4chan. was a lot of fun. but years of 4chan's best and funniest results in only a few months of conservative posting. most of it is terrible.
4chan the base of the internet is. The Core of the internet. Think of the internet as the kitchen table where people come and discuss topics and eat food. 4chan is the kitchen. Its like WoW but instead of you getting sucked in, it sucks you in and once you are in, you will come out a God hating, porn loving low life who will eventually get divorce or sell your kids just to get famous on 4chan
no seriously, it's fairly well known that only FORCED memes start on 4chan. actual memes start elsewhere, in irc channels or forums or any other kind of site really, and then some btard posts it on 4chan and 30k anons force it to become a meme by spamming it all over the net until non anons start spamming it all over the net and every one i slike omg look another 4chan meme and then it ends up on a know your meme and some newb posts the link to the know your meme article on it and everyone lolz at him because they're so clueless so someone in the know posts an actually useful and semi accurate article on it from ED which no but a night shift mod reads which leads to the post getting deleted and a 24 hour ban and so everyone wrongly assumes memes actually start on 4chan when no one but mods can actually post new threads on /b/ anyway (have you ever tried?).
do you think the whole boxxy thing got big on 4chan? or was it big before it hit 4chan? how about jessica slaughter? to catch a predator? people actually think these emmes started on 4chan, but they didn't, and thinking so makes you a [ban evasion]
I like 4chan more than I can hate it. I like it as a concept where you can anonymously post any image and text, but you are right, it has crossed the line a couple times (See Boxxy and Jessi Slaughter more recently). Sure, the site is filled with people saying " Trolling is a art", "newfa g" "summerfa g" but for you can't let that describe the whole site. Take it as an entertainment site, do not compare it to Facebook/Twitter or Neowin. Each site/board/forums has its own place and serves its own purpose. There is notice when you go into /b/. It says:
There. Well, I agree. Take everything you read/see there with a pinch of salt and take what you think it's the most valuable aspect of it, and you'll enjoy it. if you like the supernatural for example, go to /X/ there is always original content posted, even if it's fake, you'll enjoy it if you like that kind of stuff. There are some pretty cool images all across the boards for pretty much everyone. Go to the site, if you like it, good. If not, at least you have experienced it first hand. I'm there pretty much every night and at least it has made me laugh at least once a day.
I think it's a f'd up mess. I had a look at 4chan and one of the first things I clicked on (a gif) turned out to be some chavs throwing a dog off a bridge and re-cording it on their phones, I mean wtf?
i am aware of what deviantart is all about. there is a wallpaper section you can browse in different categories. what i don't like is too often the good ones are for sale so you can download them at HD resolutions for free and there's a lot of consumer product related wallpaper spam(like 8 similar twilight wallpapers for example).
