I'll be dropping off the bigger items at the Lancaster hazardous waste
facility in a week or so. I may just allow the smaller things to take
up space until someone claims them.
I'll take a broken Apple LaserWriter Pro 600 to the dump in the next
hour - I assume no one would want that since it's the logic board that
went bad.
It's in Lancaster, PA! Googling for hazardous waste in Lancaster
brought up a facility that's open daily, but didn't notice the
facility was in the wrong state until I was getting ready to make the
drive. I'm glad I didn't simply beam the address to my PDAs GPS and
let it take me there.
I found out Lancaster Ohio doesn't have one. They do an annual
collection in August, and ship it out. So I'm stuck with this stuff
another 10 months.
I found out the place to go is Sierra Metals (www.sierrametals.com).
Some things they charge for, and some things they pay you for,
probably depending on the value of the metals they're scraping.
They said they would charge me 10 cents/pound to scrap my laser
printer, and the same price to scrap a VHS recorder, so that should
give you an idea.
I just learned of a better way to dump this stuff. Check out
www.freecycle.org. It will lead you to a Yahoo Groups mailing list
for Hocking County with over 500 members, where folks post stuff they
want to get rid of. If someone wants it, they will pick it up.
