Tex Gyre Adventor is a really nice replacement for both Avant Garde and Century Gothic. Useful if you also target devices that are not a pc or Mac. It's available as a @font-face kit at FontSquirrel: -Gyre-Adventor

Century Gothic is pretty well-saturated on the Web and has letterforms that are in the same ballpark as Avant Garde. If a Mac doesn't have it on their system, you can put Futura lower down the font stack.

Not sure how scientific these surveys are, but the numbers are in line with what I've read before: Century Gothic is on probably about 87% of PCs (63% of Macs too!) and Futura is on about 96% of Macs.

Just to add, if the ascenders on Futura PT are too crazy high, or if someone finding this is looking for a free alternative to ITC Avant Garde, Didact Gothic on Google Web Fonts has many features in common.

The capitals are less eyecatching than Avant Garde's, and the letters are more uniform (e.g. no crazy-slim r), but it has a similar clear clean simplicity. It's probably suitable for use in titles or large, short (bullet list?) text.

I am not a designer just a person trying to find the right font for a presentation. I love the examples of ITC Avant Garde Gothic Bold but when I look at the actual letters in all the various versions I don't see the extreme slanted A,V or the N that & H that bend inward. Is that a designer customization? Or am I missing something?

They are in what is called the Glyphs or open type features of the font, extended characters that you can't always access from all programs. They also appear to be in the later versions of the font, my old versions don't have them.

If you search for your program and add insert glyphs or access open type features, you should be able to find instructions on how to do that. Of course, you will have to have purchased and installed the correct version of the font also.

ITC Avant Garde Gothic is a geometric sans serif font family based on the logo font used in the Avant Garde magazine. Herb Lubalin devised the logo concept and its companion headline typeface, and then he and Tom Carnase, a partner in Lubalin's design firm, worked together to transform the idea into a full-fledged typeface.

The original designs include one version for setting headlines and one for text copy. However, in the initial digitization, only the text design was chosen, and the ligatures and alternate characters were not included.

ITC Avant Garde was never cast into actual foundry type, appearing first only in cold type. Alphatype, Autologic, Berthold, Compugraphic, Dymo, Star/Photon, Harris, Mergenthaler, MGD Graphic Systems, and Varityper all sold the face under the name Avant Garde, while Graphic Systems Inc. offered the face as Suave.[1]

It is an OpenType variant of the original ITC Avant Garde Gothic, plus a suite of additional cap and lowercase alternates, new ligatures, unicase glyphs. It supports ISO Adobe 2, Adobe CE, Latin Extended character sets.

It appears that a previous user has added custom CSS.
If I go to Design > Custom CSS and manually delete all the custom CSS, can I change the font?
