Topic:         Our Minds as We Age: Promoting and Preserving Brain Health
Date:         Sunday, 1/12 @  2pm - 4pm

    • Avoiding Medical and Behavioral Risk Factors and Establish Good Habits
    • Building Cognitive Reserve
    • Creating Room for Nourishing Activities and Establishing Good Habits
  • Setting Goals for Brain Health and Planning Across the Lifespan
Joining us in conversation:
  • Monera Wong (MBBS, MRCP(UK), MPH) is Chair of Transitional Care and Chief of Geriatric Medicine at Atrius Health. Dr. Wong graduated from The Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University of London in 1994 and was awarded the Robert & Diana Dick prize for clinical excellence. She completed her residency and senior residency in Internal Medicine in the United Kingdom in 1998 and the Harvard Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine in 2004. In 2009, she received her MPH in Clinical Effectiveness from the Harvard School of Public Health.  Dr. Wong served as Medical Director of the Geriatric Primary Care Practice at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) from 2010-2014 and as Interim Chief of Geriatric Medicine at MGH from 2014-2016. Her clinical experience includes primary care, hospital medicine, rehabilitation medicine, long term care, palliative care, community and global health. Dr. Wong has a passion for teaching Geriatric Medicine.
  • Andrea Harriott (MD, PhD) is a neurologist and neuroscientist with current faculty positions at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She received her bachelor of science from Morgan State University, a historically black college. She later received her medical and graduate degree from University of Maryland, Baltimore. She completed a Neurology Residency program at Mayo Clinic. She is subspecialty trained in Stroke and Headache, completing two fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital and The John R. Graham Headache Center. She invests her time in treating women with comorbid migraine headaches and vascular disease and does basic science research into mechanisms of chronic migraine pain. She is a part of the TRANSCENDS (Training in Research for Academic Neurologists to Sustain Careers and Enhance the Numbers of Diverse Scholars) Program and is a BIRCWH (Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health) Scholar. She hopes to impact the lives of women suffering from migraine attacks and their associated comorbid conditions including stroke, preeclampsia and mental illness.
  • Olivia Okereke (MD, MS) is an American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology-certified geriatric psychiatrist and Director of Geriatric Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). She is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Associate Professor in Epidemiology at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH). She is also a long-time clinical investigator in the MGH Gerontology Research Unit and Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. A graduate of Harvard College and Yale University School of Medicine, she completed a general psychiatry residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)/ McLean program and a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at McLean Hospital. She also completed a Master of Science in Epidemiology degree at HSPH as a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Kirschstein-National Research Service Award recipient. She has built a clinical research program that employs epidemiologic research methods to identify modifiable risk factors (e.g., diet, lifestyle) involved in healthy mental aging with the goal of translating this information into effective strategies for large-scale prevention. Dr. Okereke has obtained numerous independent research grants and her peer-reviewed work has appeared in top scientific journals. Beyond performing research, Dr. Okereke is active in efforts to promote knowledge in the area of late-life mental health, regularly providing education on healthy brain aging and maintenance of emotional wellbeing within the community. She is an active member of key stakeholder boards, advisory committees and working groups.
