Greetings Haggerty Community,

I hope you are all enjoying this glorious summer weather!

We have made major strides with our hiring in the past month.  I am excited to welcome a stellar group of new faces that will be joining our team in the fall.

Jessica Karwowski is our new 5th Grade teacher. She comes to us from Arlington where she taught for 5 years.  Prior to Arlington she worked for Brookline Public Schools.  Her undergraduate and masters programs both come from Syracuse University.  Her Masters was a specialization in Inclusive Elementary Education.  She holds Massachusetts’ certifications in elementary and special education, as well as ELL (English Language Learners).  She brings a ton of energy and enthusiasm to her students and their learning, and is thrilled to join Haggerty’s fifth grade team.

Olivia Vavroch will join the third grade team as a full time special education teacher. Olivia joins Chi Kuo in a co-teaching classroom.  She attended Hunter College, where she studied Political Science, and Lesley University where she completed her Masters in Elementary and Special Education.  Olivia did her student teaching in Cambridge and has worked within Cambridge Public Schools as a long-term substitute.  She is trained in Ortin Gillingham (OG) and has also worked as a Legislative Aide at the Massachusetts State House!

Mary Collins joins the Haggerty community in the role of a full time special education teacher in grades K – 2.  She comes to Haggerty from the Cambridgeport School, but worked for several years at the Fletcher-Maynard Academy prior to that.  She brings a wealth of knowledge in early literacy and special education.  Mary’s work in reading is an incredible strength, yet she has deep knowledge with chairing Team meetings, math, and social skill development.  The list of the various programs Mary is trained in is too long to list here!  We welcome her energy, expertise, love of children and desire to collaborate and learn along with the Haggerty faculty and families.

Jennifer Healy comes to us from the Kennedy Longfellow School where she has worked in the transitional kindergarten program.  She received both of her degrees from the University of Massachusetts.  She is duel certified in elementary education and special education and is trained in Ortin Gillingham (OG) and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). This is her fourth year teaching in Cambridge.  Haggerty welcomes the transitional integrated kindergarten classroom; we are delighted to have her, and the Kindergarten assistants in that classroom (Jill Kervick and Katie Frazier) here at Haggerty.

Finally, we welcome Dr. Leslie Loomis, our school psychologist.  Most recently Leslie comes from CRLS, yet has worked in several schools throughout the district.  She has a depth of experience in the field of mental health, including work at Farr Academy, Center for Family Development, and McLean Hospital.  Leslie holds a Masters and PhD in Counseling Psychology (Loyola College and Boston College) and a second Masters in Student Personnel Administration (Columbia University).  Leslie is very excited to join the Haggerty Team and get to know her new colleagues.  We welcome her strong skill set in testing, counseling, chairing Team meetings, and most importantly, her love of children.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer.

Warm regards,

Nancy
