From Bill Tourtellotte:
My understanding is that the automated voter phone poll has resurfaced
yet again with fresh calls to Borough residents. I am told that this
time there is no company name even identified so that there is no way
to find out any information about who is behind it.
Even when publicly asked very directly, no candidates have admitted
that they know who is responsible for the poll. So either someone is
not being truthful, or some outside force is involved with our local
election, or both. Regardless, I personally do not like it and fail to
see how this practice or outside influence is in the best interests of
our residents. We have a tradition of open, non-partisan elections as
free as possible from outsiders. This clandestine polling activity
violates that tradition.
My suggestion to residents is that they do one of the following:
-Hang up on the call
-Press 0 for every question (so that they incur the per call cost to
the poll vendor)
-Or the best option may be to press the exact opposite choices of what
you intend to do on election day
I cannot imagine why any of us would be willing to share our private
decisions with any entity who refuses to even identify themselves and
their sponsor? Maybe if we cast significant doubt upon the usefulness
of the results, this devious practice will end abruptly and not
resurface in future local elections here.
Please spread the word to your Haddonfield neighbors and friends.
