This morning I woke up to another overnight parking ticket, my
neighbor got one too. As I ride around the neighborhood I do not have
to look far to see where the Haddonfield Police are failing to do
their jobs regarding the really serious traffic and parking issues. Do
they not get it? Or is it easier and more satisfying to harass the
residents for minor issues? I really do believe that the Haddonfield
Police take cheap shots at the residents who are most adversely
affected by their NEGLIGENCE and that the Haddonfield Police create
unnecessary stress and mistrust among the same residents with their
SELECTIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT. Why won't the Haddonfield Police address
the real and serious issues? Why was there so much signage installed
at our schools prohibiting parking, stopping and standing if the
Haddonfield Police are just going to ignore them? Why are the
Haddonfield Police so frequently M.I.A. (missing in action) when they
are most needed? Where's the logic in this?

Thanks for your thoughts. While I agree that more thorough enforcement
of other important issues should be a goal, I'm going to have to
support the police on the enforcement of the overnight parking
ordinance. Everyone who lives here knows that they are not permitted
to store their vehicles on the street overnight. This is a good
ordinance and serves many useful public purposes.

Sure, there are plenty of important violations which often get
overlooked or may be under-enforced, I agree. That is a popular
argument as to why people should not have to live within what they
(personally) believe are lesser offense ordinances within the Borough.
I don't buy that argument as an excuse to be incensed about not living
up to the rules which individuals may not themselves agree with.

If people don't park on the street overnight, they won't get cited for
it. Plus, they won't annoy their neighbors who are living within that
rule and prefer not to see their neighbors cars stored on the street
all night. That is what we have our own driveways and garages
for.

Thanks,

Well Bill,

While your point about the overnight parking law is valid I must point
out that not all Haddonfield residents are priviledged enough to have
adequate off street parking space for all of their vehicles. For those
persons to be singled out for law enforcement or to be charged
excessive parking permit fees while other more serious offenses are
ignored is simply an insult to those who have to suffer with these
inequities. The real problem is that certain Haddonfield police
officers flex their muscles in some places while avoiding the more
serious issues that affect us. This is a problem that has plagued the
less affluent residents of this town for many years. When I lived on
Lake Street the police used to say openly that there was something in
the water on Lake Street that caused the residents to be upset, these
remarks and this attitude are inflammatory at best. The real problem
was with the attitude of the department towards the residents
problems. This attitude from the department still continues to this
day, certain officers need to be let go (as in FIRED) as they seem to
have trouble leaving their personal issues at home.
