On Tuesday, November 10, the Haddonfield Police ticketed my neighbor's
car for being parked in front of her house but in the wrong direction.
Normally I would not consider this an issue but if you look at all of
the hazardous and illegal parking that goes on in this town you would
understand why it is an issue.

Go to the Bancroft School on Kings Highway and observe all of
the illegally parked cars there each business day. The same applies to
the Friends school on Lake Street. Go to any of our public schools
and observe all of the illegal parking and senseless milling about in
the street during peak hours and ask yourself where the Haddonfield
Police are. Check out the Haddonfield Fortnightly during an event and
see where and how everyone parks their cars, then ask yourself where
the Haddonfield Police are. I'll tell you where they are. They are
out penalizing the tax-paying residents of this town for exceedingly
minor infractions while they ignore the bigger and more hazardous
situations. Ask yourself what would happen if there was a fire at your
house and the fire trucks could not get around the corner because cars
were parked too close to the corner. This is what we deal with every
day yet the Haddonfield Police let it go unchecked. Maybe now you
understand why this is an issue that needs to be addressed. The
Haddonfield Police are misguided when they ignore the big picture and
harass the residents with such petty issues.

If the Haddonfield Police need to generate revenue let them
generate it where the most serious offenders are. We already pay
enough in taxes and we are sick and tired of being mistreated with
such harassing and  discriminatory actions. We are also tired of
suffering with the illegal and overflow parking that is ignored by the
Haddonfield Police Department daily. The Haddonfield Police violate
the very basic concept of right and wrong and do nothing but sow seeds
of discontent among the residents with their actions (or lack of
action) regarding these parking issues.

If the Haddonfield Police continue in their misguided ways I will do
my best to organize the residents of Haddonfield who are opposed to
this kind of treatment and file a lawsuit against the Borough. I am
sure that we have enough photographic evidence and testimony to make a
strong case.

I didn't even know this was illegal. I wonder what the policy reason
is. I assume it's a state, not local, requirement, but I agree - the
police should focus on traffic violations that genuinely affect public
safety. Speeding is one. My pet peeve is parking too close to the
corner - not only does it inhibit emergency vehicles, as Lee says, but
it blocks the sight line and makes it risky if not near impossible to
turn or even go straight.
