Montague image
Her method of interacting with these bodies of water includes working ‘a plein air’, submerging the papers into living waters, capturing the energy, movement and mood of the surrounding environment with vibrant watercolors and allowing the papers to dry by the sun and wind. Due to the unique response of watercolor to salt water, sand and river silt, these watercolors take on a life of their own following the intention of the artist, but expressing the nature and chemistry of the waters.

Office & Gallery hours are:
Tuesday through Friday 1:00 pm till 5:30 pm
Saturday 11:00 am till 5:30 pm.

Cultural Center News

The Cultural Center Committee is seeking your input and comments:
The Town is moving ahead with plans for the rail station in Hillsborough. The public is invited to submit comments on conceptual plans on newly acquired town property that will include the station, as well as other uses.  The Rail Station Small Area Plan Task Force presented the preliminary plans at an open house March 31 that include a potential site for a cultural center.
The plans may be viewed on the Rail Station Task Force page of the town’s Web site.  Comments may be submitted online via the Rail Station Task Force page through Friday, April 16. This is an opportunity express your desire for a cultural center in Hillsborough. If you would like to see a cultural center included in the plan, please submit your thoughts.

In addition, the Cultural Center Committee recently learned of grant offered by the Ford Foundation to support the development of arts spaces throughout the country.  Over $100 million will be provided under the Supporting Diverse Art Spaces Initiative.
According to a NY Times article, “In addition to helping arts groups build new spaces and renovate and expand old ones, the latest initiative aims to encourage the construction of affordable housing for artists in or around some of these spaces and to spur economic development in their surrounding areas.”

In a future feasibility study, the Cultural Center Committee will explore whether Hillsborough should actively plan for housing for artists and their families, and a large space that can be used for exhibitions, cultural events, conferences and gatherings of community groups.  If you think this is a good idea, please also mention this in your comments!

“We believe strongly that the arts aren't somehow an 'extra’ part of our national life, but instead we feel that the arts are at the heart of our national life. It is through our music, our literature, our art, drama and dance that we tell the story of our past and we express our hopes for the future.

Our artists challenge our assumptions in ways that many cannot and do not. They expand our understandings, and push us to view our world in new and very unexpected ways…..

It's through this constant exchange this process of taking and giving, this process of borrowing and creating that we learn from each other and we inspire each other. It is a form of diplomacy in which we can all take part…."

Michelle Obama, 2009
