Third Annual Handmade Parade

Handmade Parade Workshop at Last Fridays
Adults and children of all ages!
6:30 pm at the south lawn of the courthouse.
Learn how to make zany headdresses and hats and join the parade!
Debra Wuliger will lead this fun workshop. Bring a sense of fun!


Handmade Parade Workshop at the Eno River Farmer's Market
Saturday Sept 4
8:00 am to noon
Debra Wuliger will lead this workshop for adults and children of all ages.
Join the Handmade Parade! We'll be constructing river creatures!

From Concept to Creation:
costume and street size puppet-making workshops

(in addition: stilt-walking practice for stilt-walkers and stilt costume brainstorming and design)

1:30 to 4:30 pm

For  all ages - Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Meet some of your fellow puppet makers, learn new skills, create your own design or help others and collaborate! These are  hands on workshops.  Participants should bring their projects and materials. This is also an opportunity for those that haven't started a project that would like to join in helping to build and decorate an ongoing project. Tools will be available.

Noah apprenticed with Mark Hewitt and has been garnering rave reviews for his original work.
He recently received the second place award at the prestigious 17th Annual Strictly Functional Pottery National. This juried national show is considered one of the top ceramic exhibitions in the country.

Last Fridays Events

Last Friday, August 27th

The Hillsborough Arts Council's goal is to meet the arts and cultural needs of the Hillsborough community through a diversity of initiatives and services. The Arts Council sponsors Last Friday's events at the Courthouse Square. We're a volunteer non-profit organization that seeks to use Last Fridays to support and to expand the opportunities for diverse artistic expression and to bring the community together in celebration of our rich multi-cultural heritage. We support Hillsborough merchants, churches, restaurants, museums and galleries and encourage their participation in Last Fridays.
  • Free Concert Series!  From April through September, starting at 6:30 pm, a free concert is featured on the old courthouse lawn alongside visual arts, dance, and literature.
  • Artists, food vendors, musicians and craftspeople set up their wares on the sidewalks around the courthouse.
  • Arts walk features local artists' studios and galleries.
  • The Hillsborough Arts Council Gallery hosts an artist reception for the new August show.
  • The sidewalk cafes of local restaurants remain open.
  • The Hillsborough Pie Contest takes place at Cup A Joe's.
  • Businesses, galleries, studios, restaurants, churches, museums and historic sites remain open and offer numerous special events.
  • Children's events take place on the south lawn of the courthouse.

Big Fat Gap combines hard driving Bluegrass instrumentals with heartfelt songs that will have you appreciating why you're lucky to live in Carolina!

Blue Water Muse recording artists Big Fat Gap have been performing across the United States for over six years and have built a solid reputation for powerful live performances.

It's the only bluegrass band that comes with a guarantee. "Pretty much gimmick free," says Big Fat Gap founding member Chris Heaney of the band's music.

With special guest Greg Humphreys joining the show, this is sure to be a memorable night!

It's August and the kids are baking! Please help your child bring his or her pie to Cup A Joe no later than 5:00pm on Friday, August 27th.
Judging will begin at 6:00 pm.

Winners are announced from the courthouse stage at 7:30 pm.

Last Friday Art Walk
The August 27th Last Fridays Art Walk showcases the talents of local artists in studios and galleries in downtown Hillsborough. Many venues will have artist and opening receptions from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
Brochures with a map of the Last Fridays Art Walk are available at any of the participating venues or online at www.hillsboroughartscouncil.org/Art_Walk.

Last Fridays Volunteers
If you've enjoyed Last Fridays events won't you consider meeting new friends and volunteering a little time? Come join the fun at Last Fridays and volunteer to help keep Hillsborough green!
