Hello Natalie,

Just to confirm we're still on for this weekend and final plans!

We'll have one stall on both Saturday and Sunday, which we will man until about 6 pm.

We will showcase our work from last year with pictures, and hope to recruit volunteers and find new trees for this year's harvest as well, with a large map, pins, and sign up sheet.  We will also bring some locally harvested plums for people to try, some picking equipment for display and some jams made from London fruit.

I had a few questions for you:

1. We are planning on having 3-4 people man the stall on Saturday, and 2 on Sunday. Can these folk get some free tickets to the event? How should they go about doing this? Where should they report?

2. Can stuff be left over night on site?

On Saturday, key contacts are Niki and Lewis on 07837 118 970 and 07730 216 944.  On Sunday, key contact is Cath on 07799 638  816.

Best wishes,

Carina.

Hello Natalie,

I think we'll be fine with a  table. While we could bring the crusher/ juicer, it may unfortunately be too early in the season for any actual juicing...so may be a bit too onerous bringing it just for display purposes- but we will try! That way we can have a display of various things used for harvesting. Either way, a table will be big enough and we will have a colourful display.

We will have large laminated pictures, a large map of Hackney with pins, hoping people can place a pin on the exact street/ location where they know is a tree and a sign up sheet. We will also hopefully bring some locally harvested plums.

Regarding your blurb, I would go something along these lines

Hackney Harvest will be at the Festival, showcasing our map of fruit trees in Hackney, and telling the story of our plums, apples and pear harvests last year.  We also hope to recruit volunteers at the festival, who may be up for helping with harvesting over the autumn- it's a great opportunity to meet local people and eat local fruit!

Hackney Harvest was born last year from a partnership between a few folk from Transition Town Stoke Newington and The London Orchard Project. The interest has spread and other volunteers and local Hackney organisations have now joined us.  Together, we are working towards mapping,  harvesting, and munching of fruit trees in Hackney. This season, we are hoping to expand our activities with volunteers across the borough. Join us!

If you would like to include a logo, I have attached ours. Please feel free to tailor this blurb to suit your needs- I'm afraid I will not be online tomorrow, so hope this blurb suits your needs.

Best wishes,

Carina.

Ok cool - let me know what's possible. Still finalising site plan but there's a good chance you'll be in a large marquee with a table or two's worth of space - so something not too space consuming or table top based might work well although I'm sure there'll be space for juicer if there's anything to juice!!  would be great to have the printed map there too. we're getting info together for a fold out flyer for The Apple Cart to be printed next week so if it's possible to get a bit of blurb about planned activity and what both organisations do - just a few lines not really long or anything- by the weekend if poss that'd be amazing...

hope all's well

best

Hi Natalie

I'm sure we can come up with something along those lines. Apple bobbing would be the natural village fete option (although they wouldn't be seasonal apples - plum bobbing?? hmm maybe a bit too easy).

I've copied Carina and Lewis from the London Orchard Project in to this email. Carina, I thought it might be a nice visual thing to have the press there even if we don't  have anything to press? Although I'm conscious that it's a proper pain to get it about...

The map is primarily an online resource but we've printed it out for events in the past and people were really interested so I think we'll do that again.

I might leave this in Cath and Carina's hands now if that's ok as I won't be there. But keep me copied in to discussions!

Hi again Jamie

Hope you're well. Just wondered if the stall might be able to have any interactive activity in it at all, something like guess the full bottle in the crate and win a juice,,, this could tie in with the village fete theme nicely and might also entice people to the stall more... Is the juicer confirmed? If you need me to help supply props I could probably rustle something up

also wondered if you'll be giving out maps of hackney trees ( or am a mistaken is this an online resource)

Maybe we could get a few lines from you about what'll be going on and then I can add this to website and any promotional material going out over the next few weeks!

best wishes

Hi Natalie

That's great. If there isn't room in the tent we can have a think about getting hold of a gazebo as it would probably prove useful for other events.

I just have rather damp memories of a past Field Day a few years ago...!

Ok thanks Jamie that's good news! Not sure if we can definitely provide shelter but a table should be fine. I'll get back nearer the time with info about where you'll be as there might be space in a tent we're just confirming all site stuff over the next couple of weeks.

Take care

Hi Nat

Spoke to the team last night and we'd love to come along and share a stall with the London Orchard Project.

If you could let us know next steps, how many people can come etc that would be great. No electricity will be required and I can't see us needing much more than a table and some shelter - can these be supplied by the festival? Also can things be stored on site over Saturday night? We might bring along the juicer as it's a nice talking point but it's very heavy so if things can be left in a secure spot that would be great.

I think the first week in August might just fall between the best time for cherries and the best time for plums but all this sunshine might have brought the plum harvest forwards so we might be lucky and have some fresh fruit with us. If not, cherry jam it'll have to be!

Sad I won't be there to enjoy it :-(

Sounds fine - maybe you could share a stall together if that would help with staffing?

let me know how the meeting goes and look forward to hearing back from you.

Hi Natalie

That sounds great! We're having a meeting tomorrow so I'll discuss with the HH lot and get back to you. I'm not around that weekend as I'm DJing at another festival but I'm hopeful we could rustle up a crowd to run a stall for at least one of the days.

Can I also suggest that we get London Orchard Project involved? We're working in collaboration with them and it would be good if they were there too as they cover off all of London.

I'll get back to you very soon.

Jamie

Hi Cath and Jamie

Not sure if you remember me but I helped with Apple Day at Stoke Newington Farmer's Market last year. I run the Village Green at Field Day festival in Victoria Park and am also involved in a new festival that's more family orientated called The Apple Cart on the same site the following day ( sat 6 and sun 7 august). We wondered if Hackney Harvest might like to have an information stall at one or both of these events ( maybe as well as running some kind of themed fete style stall at the same time to make it more fun?). It would be great to have you involved.

Let me know what you think and best wishes

Natalie Silk
