I'm working to set up something similar. See http://opentechspace.org
(not much there yet, as this is just getting set up).

wm, this is very interesting and exciting. It definitely seems to be
a bit of a different idea, much more open, and from what I hear, much
farther along than us :D

Of course, that brings up the very good point that nobody has, on this
list at least, come out and stated what their goals are for this. I
think we all have slightly different ones in mind, which is great.

I'll send out an email soon about that :)

That gave me a chuckle, since we have been working on this for around
3 weeks now.
It has helped that people and organizations have been very
enthusiastic!

I've written a post on the goals of COAST at http://opentechspace.org/node/2

Open Tech Space is announcing its partnership with TechShop (which is
scheduled to open in December). We will have an electronics lab and
computer lab there that will be open (free) to anyone working on open
technology.

More information at http://opentechspace.org
We now have a Google Group which you can join:
http://groups.google.com/group/open-tech-space/

I'd love for other people to get involved in this.

Hmm,

The Art Insitute of Portland have a space nearby the Park Blocks that
we may be able to use. It’s currently designated for the Industrial
Design programme, and thus has many open spaces and workstations to
hack and make things.

We may not be able to use it full-time, but if there is interest, I
may be able to work something out with the school.
