I recently heard of someone who hacked his morning routine.

When he wakes up... he turns off his alarm. He presses one button on his phone. And his phone guides him, step-by-step, through his entire morning!

How? With a workout app.

He set up his morning routine as a workout in the app. But the key is...the app has timers and text-to-voice capability. So the app talks him through his morning routine. And it gives him a countdown timer that pressures him to complete each action.

...What do you think about this hack? And what apps (or sites) can we use to implement this?

Thanks for sharing, Christian!

It's funny. I do something very similar for my morning routine. I use Alarm Clock Xtreme Android App where I've created alarms with specific labels (which could be spoken if you prefer) for different parts of my morning routine.

One of the benefits of using an app like Alarm Clock Xtreme to follow my morning routine is that I can prevent myself from snoozing by setting up challenges like solving difficult mental math problems where I can't turn off the alarm until I solve them which gets me up and keeps me on track for my morning.

Sample Morning Routine Alarm Labels
  • 6:50am: Time to wake up.
  • 7:00am: Time to get up.
  • 7:05am: Time to meditate.
  • 7:15am: Time to journal.
Cheers,
Earle

Earle,

I do the same thing with multiple alarms for similar activities. Wake up, coffee&breakfast, gym, shower, get dressed+leave for work. I admit it's little ridiculous, but it works!

PS I also use Stay Focused chrome extension on my browser to block all websites on my laptop until 8:30 am.

Great to know I'm alone with that lifehack, James.

I've never thought about using StayFocusd that way blocking off all sites before or after a certain time. I might have to use that as I work on setting up my batching for checking emails and taking time away from my laptop.

Cheers,
Earle
