Recording Tool That Transcribes?

Hi All --

Looking for a recording app or something that will record long-form audio (an hour or more) and also transcribe it. I know about Dragon Diction, which does this for shorter chunks of time. Anyone know of any for longer periods of time? It would be used to record a conversation and have it transcribed.

Hi Paula,

Dragon Dictate is the premier transcription software as far as I am aware - I don't think you are going to get any better than that. You may want to look at an iPhone app called Dictate + Connect for recording purposes.

Dragon Dictate isn't going to handle a conversation very well since it's trained to one speaker's voice. I'd think your best bet would be to get someone on fiverr.com to do the actual transcription.

Maybe someone else on the list will know more!

Can't think of any apps, but have you looked into outsourcing?

I've used Ubiqus before and they're really good and reliable, but pretty pricey.  Rev.com will do it for $1/minute of audio. And looks like you can get someone on odesk for under $15/hour for the most part, or even as low as $5/hour (but note that's not for an hour of audio, its for an hour of work). Elance is another option, but they don't always list rates.
